I have a 90 Talon tsi awd and want to stay in a street prepared class and not go into modified class.

The main thing I want to know for fellow racers is can upgrade to a small 16g turbo and still be able to be in a prepared class?

Well a small 16g wouldn't look any different from your 14b so you'd be okay if you're going for 'stealth'. It might be legal to do and stay in STS - but, you'd have to still be using the stock BCS to control the boost. A boost controller would bump you into SM.

I was looking at more going into E Street Prepared class. I'll have to go locate someone who drives a talon or eclipse in that class and see what they can get away with.

Not sure about now, but back in the day (before I moved to E-Modified, and I actually had to follow rules) :) .... I seem to remember that even touching the boost level was prohibited in ESP (yeah, the DSM's have been in the same SP class for awhile now).

Hmm

Well that sucks.. I want to stay street prepared because I dont have the time or money to go Prepare or Mod. Oh well there is a local series in Sacrameto thats runs too.. Maybe they wont be to picky. That or I get real good at hidding stuff and dont run divisionals..

Nope. that would be Cheating.. AND If you aren't competitve in ESP with an ESP prepared AWD talon.. well, you need more wheel time or better tires. I was no less than 3rd in the State in ESP for two years 2001-2002 with my FWD 95. I added boost control and went to a B28 to play in SM.. Same story there. 2003 I netted more class wins than any of the Subies of other AWD offerings in SM... (Open Diff!) its those damn 2200lb fully suspended hatches you gotta watchout for...

Have you maxed out the allowed mods for ESP. Do you still get beat?

Get some sticky tires..Hoosiers/VictoRacers if you don't allready. You can't win without tires... pay attention to your suspension set up.. Learn to drive. DSM own ESP with a skilled good driver.

Nope.. Havent raced ESP class yet. I used to race F Prepared with my Step-Father in our 240Z many years ago. Did a little F stock racing when I had my 98 Z28 camaro. I kinda got out of racing over the past couple of years and want to get back into it. I'm in the process of rebuilding the top part of my motor on my talon and got the racing bug again. Buying a house this spring and will have the garage space again to work on my car. I want to race but cant spend a bundle. I just hate buying a stock 14b turbo again when the others are so much better. But I dont want to racing in SM or go into a fully prepared class were I'll be racing full blown race cars.

{edit}

screw it.. Talked to the step father last night and he said I should go for SM. Just race for a year or two and have fun and get my driving skills back up.. Get the base motor and turbo to start SM with then build into a more competitive car a few years later.
