Ok, blew the pump seal on the GST. Pulled the trans, replaced the seal, refilled fluid, drove the car 25 miles to a friends house with no issues. Shifted quite well actually. Was inside for maybe 20 minutes, come out get in the car, and it wont shift out of first and no reverse either. fluid is still full. What the hell could it be? I did wash all of the nasty fluid off the bottom of the trans after it was reinstalled but otherwise I haven't messed with anything. Also car shifted fine prior to the seal blowing out. Put in an end clutch kit about 3 months ago. Im kind of stumped on it.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

did you put fresh fluid in there? which fluid you used exactly? you can not dump any fluid in there! if the tranny is old just leave it with its dirty oil , dont try to change the fluid on an old auto tranny it will immediately react and start slipping and will not shift properly. ( this is when the tranny is really old )

try to change the fluid and the filter again and hope you dont have to get a new tranny.

In my years working in a transmission shop i changed fluid in hundreds of transmissions and never once did changing the fluid cause the transmission to slip or go out. IF there are problems with the transmission than it will go out anyway. If it is healthy than it will not have any problems. These are myth's started by people who don't know anything about transmissions.

IF there are problems with the transmission then it will go out anyway... ( your own word) EXACTly but why to trigger it by changing the old fluid???

what i wanted to say is changing the old oil in an old tranny that might have hidden problems will show these problems immediately. DONT arrgue on that because its true. and also if they put wrong ATF then its worst.

I disagree that changing the fluid will trigger it. If the transmission shift's properly beforehand and doesn't slip than it will shift properly and not slip afterwards. Again i haven't ever had a transmission that broke after changing the fluid. New fluid will always make the transmission shift better regardless of the condition.

you haven't ever had a transmission that broke after changing the old fluid , but the problem my firend is many other DID have problems and the transmission broke

never rule on your own expereince only , go and search and ask and you will see

start here if you like
car automatic transmission: Don't replace your tranny fluid?

I am not sure if you understand how many fluid and filter jobs i have done. Literally hundreds. I can most definitely base my opinion on personal experience. I worked at a high volume transmission repair shop for about 4 years.

That is the most retarded reason to not change your fluid I ever heard. If that was true you might as well put sand in that shit to gain friction.

Oh god, I think I started another urban legend.

I used the ATF+4 fluid. I hate to say it, but Im thinking its game over for the trans. It was working/shifting perfectly fine this morning, hell even made it all the way into work at the shop, but about halfway home pulling off from a stop light thats all she wrote. Only have first gear now. It was kind of acting like it was sticking from the 1st to 2nd gear change, then all fine after that. Now nothing but first gear. Tow truck ride the rest of the way home :(

Sounds like you may have broke the band or lost solenoid B (it controls 2 and 3 gear). as for the tyranny fluid change myth, that really is for the power flush that some shops do. New fluid works better, but a power flush may clog the valvebody or kill the clutches
