i used to own a 96 RS 5speed. earlier this week I came back to my DSM.
i now have a 99 Spyder GST Auto Tranny. Full turbo back exhaust. and air box delete. other than that all stock performance wise.

i noticed the tranny was acting funny (shift points and slipping)
and last night i stopped at a light and it STALLED WTH?
anyone know how an auto tranny stalls? or what causes it?
im planning on getting a tranny service next week. im hoping its just the bands. any other imput would be awesome!
it has 134,000 miles.

Usually when an auto car stalls upon coming to a stop it's because the tcc (torque converter clutch) is not releasing, therefore causing the car to stall.

^^^^ This^^^^^

Usually when this happens it's caused by an intermittent failure of the TCC solenoid. (That's what turns on and off the flow of fluid to the TCC.)

Generally it will stall only after you have gone fast enough to engage the TCC, then come to a stop. It usually won't stall if you have only gone 20-30 MPH and stop, but if you hit 40 or more and stop, the TCC forgets to release.

cool thanks for the help guys.
is that an easy fix? and how much does that usually cost?
or should i just take it to a local shop?

I've done a bunch of them on "J" body GMs, but I'm not super familiar with DSM automatics. When I look up R+R TCC lock up solenoid in my labor guide, it says average time is 1.8 hours. When I try to look up the solenoid on rockauto, the only thing I can find that may be the part, is a shift control solenoid for $108. Problem is, I can't swear to you that the TCC soleniod is part of that solenoid pack.

Honestly I would do a little hands on diagnosing before jumping right up and buying a solenoid anyway.
