So ive read on the pressure drops for oil coolers but what i want to know is do i need to worry about pressure drop in a tranny cooler setup?

I cannot seem to find a bulletproof answer on the web so thought i would ask here.

a question to add on to this question aswell

I was thinking of getting another B&M super cooler kit from jnztuning as my oil cooler is the exact same but did not know if

1> that was too big and would over cool it or get a slightly smaller unit

2> of course need to know if i should worry about pressure drops etc

Thanks

Bobby

Of course on an intercooler, but oil coolers have an effect on pressure drop so i was automatically assuming the tranny cooler might also do something but as its a guess i wanted to ask.

If your mod list is up to date then you are basically stock power and stock tranny internals. In that case i would choose a setup the same or maybe slightly bigger than stock. I like the way you're thinking. You took in to consideration the fact that you could OVER cool your tranny oil.
Thats why i would stay stock size for now or if you are going big for future needs(?), block some airflow to it to keep temps normal.

Edit: Yea the whole pressure drop thing on atf fluid doesnt sound like an issue at all. I would not be concerned with that.

Yes it is up to date, i always keep it updated for people,

I plan to race more next year so i wanted to renew the tranny cooler as mine is old and most of the fins are a little bent, I did read that tranny fluid likes to be as cool as possible but there is a spec of temp but i cannot find it anywhere at the moment!

I was going to place it on 1 side in front of my radiator so its not going to get full amounts of flow but enough to help. just need to find a trans temp gauge I like aswell.

thanks for your reply

I dont think a pressure drop will be a problem at all. If you want you can locate it where the sidemount use to be, thats how mine is. AEM makes a nice trans temp gauge my buddies got one its nice, i kinda cheaped out and just got a water temp gauge since they are kinda of the samething.

Considering people almost cook their transmission fluid from 4000 stall launches and/or heavy traffic city driving, temps reaching to 250-300 in the tranny, i doubt you have to worry about over cooling. If you are gonna race it, its best to have a cooler.
Check out these long tru coolers, you can choose which size you want based on your needs, they have a low pressure drop. The 19,000 is like 5 3/4 x 11x1 1/2 thick.. Should be suitable side mounted.

I was thinking of either ordering another B&M super cooler or a MOCAL cooler, but at the moment im not sure what one to get as both are good but mocal are of course nicer hehe.

OH and ive still got the side mount at the moment as ive not upgraded my turbo yet! in the works, so i have to make do with in front of the RAD and my oil cooler is going where my stock tranny cooler is but when i do get a front mount it will of course be going where the SMIC is,
