I just dropped in a motor from a 99 GSX and noticed that ther are 2 lines coming off the transmission that go into the radiator then from the radiator they go into the transmission cooler.

Last year I replaced my stock unit with a plate designed cooler from summit racing. I decided to route these lines from the transmission straight to the cooler and do without them going through the radiator altogether.

1. Is there any special function the radiator was providing besides making line easier/shorter to run?

2. Does it make a difference which line from the tranny goes to which line on the cooler?

The cooler sits with one line up top and the other on the bottom with both facing towards the passenger side.

Thanks

If possible, you always want to use the radiator as well as the external cooler for max cooling and also for best cold weather warm-up.
