Hello guys i have 2 problems with my tranny atm, My rear main seal is leaking engine oil and my other is im guessing its my end clutch because my overdrive does not work anymore and i can only drive in three gears. The car has 183xxx miles original tranny and engine. Do you think i should buy a new tranny or get the 2 problems fixed? i know i cant do this job myself and its going to be expensive either way but i dont know which way would be cheaper/better.

You have two jobs ahead: motor needs a rear main seal done and you need new end clutches for the OD gearing for the tranny.

With that many miles on the motor, it's a normal for such to happen - things DO wear out eventually.

Gonna be spendy for a shop to do these two items. Have some green lining in your pockets ..

You could look for a lower mileage, good used trans.Car-Parts.com is where I'd start,or with 183k rebuild yours if its affordable for you.Rear main can be changed while the trans is out for next to nothing.

If the od is not working because of bad end clutches, that's a fix to where the tranny doesn't even need to be pulled. The rear main seal on the other hand you don't have a choice but to pull the trans. Gonna be pricey if you have to pay someone.

What happens when the transmission tries to shift onto OD? If it feels like neutral then the end clutch is probably toast. If it just doesn't shift and stays in 3rd gear it could be a TCU issue. I would check codes on the TCU and see if it shows a problem. Rear main seal requires the trans to come out. If it is trans fluid that is leaking that would be the transmission input shaft seal or torque converter.
