auto to manual swap

I have a 98 gs-t a/t. I want a 5speed pretty bad but i still want to keep my car because it is in very good condition and the motor runs excellent. If i were to swap to a 5speed would it be worth it? What all would i need and could i use a tranny from a 1g? Would this affect the computer at all? Unfortunetely getting rid of the car may be a pain due to the fact that it is a shared vehicle

1 last question, about how much horsepower can a stock a/t hold and run reliably?

If your car is running and driving just fine now then no it wont be worth it. Yes having a 5 speed is a lot of fun. But by the sounds of it this is your dd that you share with another person. Just run your car as it is, and save for the 5sp in the future. Or when you have another vehicle do the swap then. Just my .02

The 1g transmission will not fit in the 2g cars, you need to have a 5spd from another 2g GS-T... cannot be from a GS, RS, or GSX, it has to be from the same trim level.

The swap is not that hard, I have done two of them myself, one ( my first ) on my GSX and the second on my friends GST.
