At what temperture will the head start to warp? My car over heated today and I'm worried. It got to 250 (dsmlink). I don't see water in the oil and I don't see oil in the water. Should I be worried.

At 250 degrees I cracked a piston due to it or the block swelling too much. 250 degrees can do some more serious damage than a headgasket. If I ever see that temp again I will go ahead and pull the engine. I am pretty sure you did damage somewhere. I would atleast do a compression check but I would advise a leakdown check.

Wow at 250F your HG was blown for sure, if not from your warped head, from your coolant boiling.
At that temp you can get pockets of air from the water boiling in your head, that keeps your cooland from absorbing the head generated.
Any idea why you got to 250F with no warning?

I blew my last motor because the coolant temp location sucks on a 1g. Boiling over and the temp gauge was halfway(right).

I was trying to calibrate my gm maf and you need to let it idle for 5 mins so I walked away from it for a while and that is what the temp on link was saying when I got back. I turned the car off and let it cool down. I started it and drove it and it seemed fine. I didn't see any smoke comming out of the tail pipe and didn't see any water in the oil. I'm going to do a comp test today and see if I need to do a leak down if the comp is bad.

DAmn I would double check the coolant temperature sensor for the ECU which is the two wire unit. If that checks out then I guess you got lucky. I would change the oil immediately because some of it probably got too hot and gunked up/broke down. I believe your saving grace is that the car was just idling.
