I was wondering if anyone can look at these pics of my head gasket/block surface and tell me what you think?

I drop the head and a spare 2g head off at the machine shop, but my machinist wont be back until monday.

Gasket Kinda looks like it was not holding very well on either end. Head warp? Opinions?

You can see where the gasket looks as though it has carbon deposits on both ends. Looks like the head had some minor amounts of warp. It wasn't over heating. No coolant leaks. But it was pressuring the coolant system.

Oil was clean

Coolant was for the most part clean. No oil in it, but it had a good bit of what looked like carbon in it. Kinda of a darker color in spurts.

You could have stuck a straight edge on the heads to see if they were warped. You usually have to overheat pretty bad to warp heads, even lifting them before i didnt warp them on the 3000gt.

What else would explain the excesive carbon build up on the ends of the block/headgasket.

You can clearly see the carbon build up (the blackshit ffs) on both the gasket and block. I even circled it on the gasket. :banghead:

I dropped both the heads I have off @ the machine shop already... I can't very well check them if I don't have them. I dont have a long enough straightedge or a feeler gauge so I couldn't really check them accurately.

WTB privlege to moderate my own threads.

It could be caused by improperly torqued or stretched head bolts if they had been reused.

It looks fine i thought.

If you already got the bock torn down, i say, go ahead and deck them(both head and block). Just second guessing is like putting together a half ass build.

Or, you could send the block to the shop that you drop your head and have them check the block for flatness. Then you can go form there.
