I just had my engine rebuild & the mechanic said he replaced my valves.
What do you guys think?

This is a very ambigious question because they way a car is treated and runs hads alot to do with how the valves look. That could be from a 90k car that was regularly seafoamed, injector cleaned, and just generally maintained.

That being said, exhaust valves usually gain deposits within a few thousand miles or so. Those look pretty new, but they are not brand new obviously. (brand new stock valves have an iridescent blackish color to them from the nitriding)

I was just wondering what you guys thought, because the valves have less than 35 miles on them from the rebuild.
To me they look old..
I'm trying to figuer out if the mechanic charged me for new valves and didnt put them in.

Those definitely look new. He would have to be a real jackass to charge you for valves and not put them in. Do you trust this man? How long have you been going to him?

I don’t trust him at all. I had a very hard time with him while he was doing the rebuild.
He gave me the car back (after 3 months!) w/o a shim on the exhaust outlet, so that rattles and shakes around.
Also, it doesn’t boost past 1psi & he didn’t know why or how to fix it.
So, I decided I’d have enough of him working on the car & took it to another shop.

The new shop thinks the valves have too much carbon on them to be new.

So you've pulled the head just to make sure the valves are new?

Anyways if you can't remove the carbon with your finger easly or atleast gasoline and a rag, then it's defenatly not a new valves.

From pictures they look like nice factory 200.000km valves, maybe by New Valves he meant this:
