Are the rear diff and front diff similar?

A friend and I are planning on making a mid engine RWD setup using an AWD transaxle in FWD mode. All the parts will be leftover from my automatic swap. This is all fairly straight forward but we're concerned about having the open front diff as the only thing driving the car.

I also have a limited slip in the rear end that will be coming out with the auto swap. The viscous isn't the best, but it would be better than nothing if it could fit in the front position.

TLDR: Can the rear differential be made to fit in the front differential spot?
