Are new rod bearing needed?

Im thinking about doing the 1g rod 2g piston combo. Im probly going to use arp rod bolts as well as getting the proper machining done. What im wondering is would I have to get new rod bearings? If i do then can they just be installed or would the crank have to get machined as well?

1G rods are not compatible with 7 bolt engines. The rods are too wide and would require the entire rod to be narrowed to fit a seven bolt block. You would also have to enlarge the diameter of the wrist pin journal. Machining the crank is not recommended. Seems to me that this project was intended to save money over getting a set of forged rods, but the amount of money you're burning to have 1G rods fit would be better spent on a good set of forged rods.

Sorry, i should've mention this is for my 6bolt and i also knew about enlarging the wrist pin journal on the rod. My main concern is the bearings. I have a few sets of 2g pistons and 1g rods laying around so i figured why not.

to answer your question, yes, you should buy new rod bearings, over time, even though they don't show any wear, the metal in the bearings starts to break down, and can cause the bearings to become weaker, i would reccomend that since you are spending money on it, you should for sure buy a new set of rod bearings, don't half ass it. Yeah, any time you seperate the rods from the crank you should replace the bearings. No machining is needed for the crank, so the bearings should be standard size.

The journals should be polished anytime you install new bearings. No real machining required if the crank is in spec but a polish is highly reccomended. I personally would have both mains and rods polished and install new bearings in both.
