rod bearing problem!!

no wear on crank. i bought it rebuilt and noticed that the rods had some play at the crankshaft so i measured the bearing oil clearance and it came to .004. i think the crank has been turned or polished or something. the bearings arent worn out or anything.

Did you mic the crank?

Link to the bearings.

The ID and OD of both 6 bolt and 7 bolt are the same, it is the length of the bearing that differs between the two.

I agree that Cosworth anything is insanely over priced. You also need to take into account that your 95 has a one piece thrust bearing while the Evo 4g63 (and later DSM 4g63's) have split thrust bearings.

hey Bogus i got the dimensions, will they work for a 7 bolt dsm motor?

Please see dimensions below of size 0 Evo 4G63 rod bearing, part number 20002722.

It looks like the Cosworth is .030 longer than the Cleivite.

It is hard to say if they will or will not.

But just looking at the specs, both are close except the cosworth length, and that is .030, not a huge differance, but still not worthy.

If you have a set of Dial calipers, you may want to measure an old bearing, and then the distance between the bevels in the con rod, also measure the rod throw on the crank inside the raduis of the crank.

If you have greater than .830 the bearings will work

okay gotcha thanks bogus! ill measure them and see what i get. ive also heard that people are using evo rods on 7 bolt dsm cranks so i figured maybe i could use the rod bearing.

Just make sure that the edges of the bearing do not get into the raduis of the crank throw. If that happens, you will not be happy.
