I have a friend who has the apexi safc on his car and he's venting a blitz BOV, i got to talking to him and he said with that, it allows him to vent with virtually no problems. I remembered seeign on here that the feature on the safc doesnt work on DSM's. After hearing what he said and riding in his car, im thinking about buying the SAFC and venting again. So my question is, does the feature on the SAFC compensate for the odd aur/fuel mixture that venting causes?

to vent it to the atmosphere correctly you will probably have to switch to a GM maf setup with a translater. its way more complicated than adding an afc. do you just want more sound or what?

Need a gm maf and translator to do it properly, he is just imagining things.

honestly, it depends on your car man, they all react differently. I know all these guys are saying no and every other thread on here makes venting w/o a gm maf seem like taboo (and it just might be) but my car works just fine vented w/an afc. Would be crappy to spend the money and find out it doesnt work though.

Also, in my personal experience, it helps A LOT having a BOV made to specifically vent, not do both like the Greddy unit for example. My car behaved horribly with a Greddy type s vented, then I switched to the the Blitz SS BOV, worked great but the piece leaked at part throttle which was unacceptalbe to me since I like the mountains, then I went with an RFL which worked amazingly well but sounded a bit ridiculous then settled with a type H and am very happy. I idle fine and its honestly hard to tell the difference in spool compared to when I recirculate. I also have a tial but am waiting to put that on till I fix "other" problems with my car. Dont take the above for the gospel though, as I originally said, different cars react differently. Mine doesn't mind being vented.

Please dont flame or scream misinformation like people on this board always do on this topic, the above is from personal experience and if your local to san jose your welcome to come chill and see for yourself.

I've vented with my EV08 and GS-t w/ just the afc and I didn't have many problems. I've long forgotten the ratios because I just drive the car now, but I have an awesome tuner locally.

Yes, that EIDS has peaked my interest as well. One question though, do you still need the stock MAS?

Guys that are venting, have you checked your logs to see what they look like when you shift? Or are you just going by the butt dyno and it tells you that your car is not losing any power?

All my logs were clean on an OBD2 pocketlogger.

A local tuner told me the losses of air were too small to measure on his TMO datalogger, he may have been blowing smoke though.

BS...

or the bov isn't releasing enough air (spring might be too tight) which would cause compressor surge which is also not a good thing.

then again this thread is pointless... if you want to vent then do it.. it's been discussed time and time again why you shouldn't and why it's bad for your vehicle. just don't come crying when something breaks and say dsms are unreliable.

Wasnt surging, I know what that feels like. I see a lot of people having a bad time venting because they are typical DSMers and use duct tape to plug the return line which doesnt seal. I had a custom made aluminum piece plugging mine up and it worked great, and when i switched to the dejon tool intake pipe with the return completely deleted I noticed another gain in drivability and idle quality.

Im not saying mine runs cherry, I can smell the fuel being dumped between shifts. But other than that, my car runs fine, and according to the "butt dyno" I dont really feel a difference from when I am venting and not venting. I'll get about an extra 5-10 miles a tank when not venting though.

You can buy the EIDS built into the HKS SAFR which is a direct competitor of the SAFC. They both have their "perks". Alot of EVO guys run the HKS version and say the EIDS works good.

tell him to get his manual out for the afc, show him the section that explains the air compensation and ask him what kind of sensor he runs. When he answers Karman, smack his dumbass in the face and point to the line that reads that this function only works while using the HOTWIRE sensor. shazzam.

in other words, it DOESN'T run fine... i mean let's face it, are you willing to compromise the well being of your car, dumping in unnecessary fuel in between shifts, possibly melting your pistons, all because of the awesomely cool blow off valve sound? if people are willing to take that chance then it's up to them, but when people get on here saying that they vent and their cars run perfectly fine when truth of the matter is, they will HAVE to be running rich at one point or another is just absurd. to each their own though... it's your car, your call.

Get over yourself and step off your little soap box. First off, its obviously running rich, I said that, and the way the system is set up, venting will cause it do run like a bit rich. The fact of the matter is its not a large enough amount for it to be caught on a pocketlogger. Ever taken the time to check it out for yourself? I doubt it. You are just like every other joe on this board who get all butt hurt when people go against the grain and vent and dont have problems. I'll almost bet you've never done it before, you've just read on this board over and over how "bad" it is to do to your car. 5 years ago (when I first did it and posted about it) it wasnt such a big deal, all people really said is you lose a bit of mpg and the car may stumble a bit at idle, but over the years people kept blowing it up more and more and with new technology and products like the maf translator all of a sudden if you vent its " oh no your dumb your gonna melt your pistons, " melting pistons from venting, thats laughable. Do you commute 50 miles in my car every day? Do you hear how it idles fine and pulls hard shift after shift? NO. If your ever in my area feel free to hit me up and go on a test drive and see for yourself how it drives "fine" and I'll even buy you a beer just to be cool. Hell I even passed cali smog while with a vented bov.

And remember, its just a DSM. If it blows up(and it still hasnt, after 60k+ miles of venting! :shhh: ), well hell I guess it'll be an excuse to rebuild the 6 bolt I have sitting under a tarp in the back yard and punch out to 2.3L. Darn. :thumb:

either stop being a ricer or buy a gs and be as ricey as you want

theres nothing wrong that someone wants to vent he asked a question not for you to come at like that.. its a preference just like tinting your windows or putting rims on your car.. so rice nothing. You can leave all that mumbo jumbo somewhere else. :notgood:
** next time come with something that has a little more thought put into it or don't post at all. :toobad:

i DRIVE OVER 50 MILES EACH WAY TO WORK. I stopped venting my bov and have not noticed a whole lot of change in performance but I will say my mpg went up not a lot but it did go up.
