Vancouver,
Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the whole tuning thing. I'm fresh out of being a mechanic apprentice I'm a tech now so I know enough about cars and such. I have very few mods to list in my car, straight pipe cat back , turbo with td05 compressor housing with a big16g turbine( might have that backwards) stock injectors aem fuel rail ( don't think its flowing more)fpr(ebay junk) stock fuel pump solid metal intake pipe where the rubber used to collapse a front mount with piping and ebay turbo manifold .. was wondering if i would benefit from and Apexi safc II at all.. My friend would sell me his for $150 he has a wrx and from what he tells me its not that good for a wrx, but he said its works well for evo's which is pretty much a dsm. Do you guys have any good/bad experiences? I'm considering buying it for the sake of taking a newbie step into tuning. thanx guys

Since you have a 95 you probally have an eprom ecu. And if the money permits for you i would invest in dsmlink over an afc. But if you dont have the money the afc cant hurt if you get it tuned right. Since you have a 16g you are probally runnign more than stock boost so the afc would let you add more fuel for the more boost your adding. At least what your factory fuel system will allow you to do.

what would the advantages of a dsm link be?maybe its worth just forking the money to do it right and get something that is gonna have more potential in future mods ?

From my experience the AFC and AFC II (I've owned both) are plenty to tune a simple car, like up to a 16g with basic bolt-ons, ~310hp level. Beyond that you'll want the increased control of a DSMLink (which I also have) and the like.

Now that I have dsmlink the AFC2 is just a battery and karman monitor, but it's nice to look at :)

wow thanx guys you answered my questions.. Ya i cant afford to build my car too quick.. Im gonna check for the eprom and go from there, not too sure yet which i will go with. DSM link looks promising.

Another cheaper way to go would be to get and safc and a key diver chip for the eprom, that will get you close to a good tune. Plus when you do upgrade fuel system and everything you can get the chip reflashed for your settings
