Hey whats up guys... ok so over the past weeks i had a 3" pipe made to bolt in place of my apex muffler because top end was a lil restrictive... then one day i was playin with the muffler off the car at work... decided to see if i could take the little 2.5" reducer out of the inside of it.. just took an air chizzle to it and sure enough 10min later it slid right out.. now when you look inside it is like almost 4"!!! :D straight through.. Sounds VERY deep and Very nice when your WOT... ill try to post up an exhaust clip... but i would recommend who has this muffler to do it :thumb:

Thanks guys

Hmmm, mine defently wasn't reduced to 2.5" like you say, it was atleast 3" all the way through. I no longer have the system, so can't take exact measurements &/or pics. I bought mine like 5 years ago, maybe something they changed through the years?

Now for anyone that is running an actualy Apexi N1 catback, I would defently recommend removing the resonator that comes with the system & installing another resonator that is actually 3" internally, if you don't mind abit of extra noise. The resonator Apexi uses is a huge restriction, as it necks down to like 2". When I had a custom system done with true 3" straight through resonators (& the muffler I used, if anything would probably flow slightly less the the N1 muffler) I picked up huge top end gains. Were talking 4-5 lb/min airflow (@24psi) & 40-50 ft/lbs & hp @ 7000rpms. I couldn't believe how much of a difference it made.

well i bought it from Extremepsi the whole system... an when i pulled the pipe out of the muffler it was like 2.5".. it slid into my 3" exhaust pipe with room to spare LOL.. so they must have changed sumthin in the design... but ya.. for sure made a HUGE difference in my top end :thumb: and sounds great

Well I guess I have to try this out as well. I'm going to try and borrow my gf's camera so I can do a before and after video.

Does it get louder or just deeper? Because I dont want my exhaust getting any louder. LOL

I will post back later.

Ryuto,
I've got a 5 spot that says its only going to get louder!
However, since you're pushing ~40lbs/min if there's a gain to be had from doing this you'll be one of the few who might actually notice a performance gain and not just a tone/pitch/dB change.

On my car with my mods i noticed it got alot deeper not louder.. just a smooth deep rumble :thumb: an ya of course if your running more boost you will notice more gains top end... im runnig a MHI evo3 16g at spike 23 psi but falls to 19 around 7000 rpms.. but for sure noticed a big difference. before it would kinda struggle to pull from like 6K to 7500rpms..now it has no problem... didnt think i was gonna see that much but did.. Not sayin you will feel as much as i did... every car is different.. But for sure better over all man

it didnt get any louder... in fact its a lil quieter to me... it doesnt have the raspyness it did before...

I have the ebay knockoff apexi N1 made by Tsudo, have to check if I have this as well.

My car got definatly louder. It sounds a lot better, and beefier. There's no rasp. Its kinda scary deep. Its baller though. It took a lot of effort with the screw driver, but it will. You just need to bend it in enough to overcome the spot welds. Keep at it!

can you post a clip?

I did this back in '05 on a universal apex N1 that was 3" to begin with.

I used an air grinder with a 10" extended carbide bit and ground all the spot welds off as to not destroy the baffaling. The piece that you remove is not a resonator at all nor is a restriction, it is just a pipe, why it is there I don't know. Once removed the diameter is 3.5" all the way through VS the 3" before. The only reason I did this was because I ran a 3.5" exhaust. If you have ever read Buschurs post about 3.5 VS 3 piping this is a usesless mod, unless maybe you are making 1000hp however I did the mod before he did the testing.

The exhuast got much quiter also, and I REALLY don't like it, but it is what I got now.

i believe RRE informed everybody about this a while back. they joked around with it by showing a picture of the apexi system in their trash. the reason because of this reducer contraption showing its not a real 3" system. can't find it anymore, but makes sense since they are trying to sell the damn thing now LOL

good thread to inform people, and even make the ebay exhaust system that much better for the price since they don't have this, and is full SS piping.

i will say i did this back last summer, i'll post pictures 2nite of mine.

but i have a knock off apexi n1 style catback. . . ebay. . .and my buddy took a cutting wheel to the inside and bout 20 mins later and a lot of cutting out came another reducer and a shit ton of packing material.

needless to say it was well worth it, a LOT louder and i noticed a difference in performance! I was able to hold boost better, who would have guess that little thing inside my muffler was holding me back all along LOL

now the fart can is basically for looks ### when you look inside all it is, is a 3" pipe going through the muffler.

How the hell did you guys get it out? I've been hammering mine for like 15mins and broke a screw driver doing so. Any tips? If I cant get it out I have to wait until Sunday to use my buddies air hammer/chizzle.

hahaha ya.. i tried with a flathead and was gonna take me a while.. went in my box and got an air chizzle... two seconds later it was out... :thumb: keep at it.. it will come out... just make sure you dont go to the far outside pipe.. you will see if you get a light it looks like two layers of pipe.. you wanna go between the two and break the spot welds.. once you get all the welds off it and roll it enough inward it should slide out... let me know if you need help man...

when i took mine out.. nothin but a pipe 2.5'' in diameter came out.. that insalation is still inside the muffler sealed by the muffler.. and yes.. i was supprized nobody did this.... well that i new of... i was just bored at my shop.. came across it... and posted this thread... glad you guys like it... :thumb: i know i did!! :rocks:
