Anyone tried this before? (x-fer case/driveshaft leak)

Well I figured out that the yoke was leaking on my driveshaft. I didn't want to take my car to the dealer and have to go through the hastle of getting it replaced under the recall and have a chance of it still leaking or them screwing something up. I also didn't want to just JB-Weld it and hope it stays sealed for awhile. As you can imagine I also didn't want to fill the splines with RTV and hope that sealed it. So I decided to take drastic measures. Tell me what you guys think.

How did you do that? I thought that the old plug (the one that leaked) was made from some non-ferrous metal (like brass or copper?). Was this the new and "improved" yoke? One downside is the potential to change heat treatment of the yoke, thus making it softer.

But you do realize that you can buy of these yoke recall kits from the dealer for ~$30, right? And they come with a new u-joint, which you should replace and which costs ~$80 by itself.

BTW, I hate to state the obvious, but the cheapest way to buy a u-joint, is to buy it with the recall kit and throw away the yoke (if you do not need it) :).

This yoke must be the "recall" kit which LEAKED because it welded right to it no problem. I filled it to make sure there were no cracks and no possibilities of leaking.

I do realize that the recall kit is $30...but it can still leak. The flaw in the design is that plug because they have to machine out the splines. I just didn't want to buy the new kit and have it leak down the road.

If i do have any problems with this one I will just buy the recall kit and install that...but this cost me nothing ;)
