Im running the precision billet 6262 sp with a a/r .63 turbine housing ...very fast spool and good power in all ranges i personlly love it and cant wait to finish my engine build to hear it spool ...:D

I know multiple people running the 6262 and 6265

THEY LOVE IT

until they fail a month later.
And I have months on a 6262 JB with multiple 1/4 mile runs. Still running perfectly. I beat on the car pretty well and NEVER see less than 32psi when I drive it.
IF you set them up with the correct oil pressure and drain there seems to be no problem with them.

Don't you just love it when people swoop in on a thread like a pigeon to crap on it then fly off. ROFL

That is incorrect. There have been numerous failures with people even using "the correct oil pressure" for them.

There was a huge thread on the link forums documenting the PTE failures.

^^ do you have a link to the thread?
I've looked and couldn't see it.

Seems strange to me that my JB 5031 and 6262 have both lived just fine and other people have problems when I followed PTE's instructions about max oil pressure etc.
I had the 5031 on for years before going with the 6262.

i am running the 6262 turbo and it has it running strong with no issues. there isnt a problem with there turbos, i tune plenty of cars that have them and they perform great.

Just did a quick read through on that thread link, thanks for that.
Results were
5 total failures.
2 of which were admitted user error in installation.
17 total have not failed.

Note: I did not count individual turbos for either failures or successes. They ratio remains about the same though.
Take Tim Z for instance, he went through a few but also mentioned that it was in the early days.

Seems that my point may have more too it than previously thought.

People in that thread only listed what thyey used for an oil feed. Only one person that I spotted listed that they used a FP blue drain line. Another was going to use a -12 drain which is what I use with no issues.

It is interesting that these turbos get used on a lot of other makes and any issues mainly seem to arise when they are bolted to a DSM.

I have had my JB 6262 for years. never rebuilt and never babied. 29-30psi made 499-500awhp on a mitsu flange. And i have no oil restrictor. oil feed comes from the head, and oil return is a -12.

I'm thinking that the nice large return is making a positive difference for these. I run 3/4 welded pipe fittings on mine with the -12 hose pushed over it. I also do not have any drastic bends in the return line. It has a nice gentle curve from the turbo to the sump.

One thing i dont understand about most on here, is that one someone inputs info on a product that is said to be bad, people get mad! Ok so Boosted98gsx first comment was a little out there and aggressive on putting PTE turbos down, maybe he hates then and has something against the company, but none the less it is ALWAYS good to here BOTH sides of the story, not just the side that sounds good and the one you want to hear!!

This is 100% true.

To this day, PTE journal bearing turbos are the only units I've seen which failed randomly, for no reason at all, even when given the proper oil feed and drainage.

I've witnessed turbine wheels breaking clean off the shaft the first time the turbo was boosted when it was new, numerous cases of thrust washers exploding with as little as 1,000 miles of use, and many guys have issues with smoke from day 1 on PTE journal bearing turbos. I've even seen a case where PTE forgot to bolt the thrust plate down and the turbo locked up the first time it was run....so there's a huge fail on the part of the in-house "experts" who are assembling these things. That's quite a poor return on a $800-$900 investment....there are Chinese turbos that last longer than that.

Many of the users who have had PTE issues will switch to a FP, BW, MHI , or Holset turbo afterward and that replacement will remain on their car until the time the car is sold or they decide to upgrade again, so we know it's not an oil contamination issue that caused the PTE turbo to fail.

It's to the point where I wouldn't consider purchasing a journal bearing turbo from that company, EVER. Their entire journal bearing lineup doesn't even exist to me. LOL

My past dealings with PTE's customer service weren't that great, either....so I'd rather give my business to a vendor like FP who built their business on DSM's and knows the product they're selling inside and out instead of a company who designs a turbo then casts different housings to make it fit different applications without doing any R&D.

To me it's just not worth taking the risk that the turbo can explode on you at any time without warning. If you like living on the edge that much, there are plenty of Chinese knockoff turbos out there that will give you the same satisfaction for a fraction of the price.
