anyone knows how to mod a 1g coil pack to a 2g

Does anyone knows how to mod the 1g coil pack to work on a 2g. I searched and this is what I came up with. I think I need the whole coil pack assembly: the coil pack and the power transistor. Do I just install it and it will work? or do I need to cut wires and rewire them.

So umm whats your reason for this ? Why not just get a 2g coil pack ?

why would you want to do that. 1g coil packs are getting rare, especially a 90 one. The 2g pack are decent. just keep you gap low and you will be fine. Screaming Demon makes an upgrade for the 2g tle and for the 1g neons, if I rememeber correctly. Keeping the gaps low will cause the coil to not have to work as hard. Stock for a turbo low side is .028 so, go .025 or so. Stock for a N/A is around .032 to .050 depending on the plugs used and if an SOHC or DOHC. Go a little smaller by around 3 or so thousandths and will be fine. I have owed them all....t/e/l and neons 1g and 2g. I always set the gap smaller depending on power output. The higher over stock, the less the gap from OEM. Always ran great. Better than playing with the wires and messing up something to make something else work. my .02 worth.

yes but, you get a more consistant spark. You do not need much of a gap to ignite the mixture. I run .025 on my 1g awd at 21psi. It fires just fine...(for the record, it misfired shortly after replacing the plugs and gapping them to .028 like the book said so I gapped to .025) I used a . 33 on my neon and fired just fine and had 133whp with a dohc with just an intake and computer upgrade. If you keep it to stock, it will open up to a gap in a short amount of time that may cause misfires due to the coil not being able to fire. This is a problem on rx8s and some other vehicles as well.

the smaller spark will do fine and it will open up to around the OEM gap after a few thousand miles so you do not have to regap the plugs all the time. The best thing to do is to gap it small but just a little small. gap around .003 less than spec and everything will be just fine. If you run much higher than stock power, gap even smaller. 1g coils are good for around 500hp and 2g are good for around 400 or so depending on other issues/mods.

I will gaurantee you if you gap at OEM spec and have a lot more than stock hp, the coils will get fried....that I can gaurantee you.

and yes, I own an rx8 and regap the plugs to .043 instead of .048 and it runs like a top with nearly 200whp with just intake/exhaust/pulley/flywheel.
