Anyone ever remove ring gear from CD outter housing??

I noticed it's just weldd on and in fact NOT a part of the housing (as in its not the same piece of metal when startin out thge machining)

So if you can carefully machined the weld to the depth needed and then use a press i don't see why it wouldn't come out.. I'm gonna try tomorrow and if I can do it may not have to buyt a new CD housing!!!!!!!!!!
