Hello, I've already purchased my system and just need to have a shop weld in the 3" pipe and hang every thing.

I'd like some advice on the placement of the resonators and two mufflers I'll need to install.

2g Manifold
B16g
1G ported O2
3" Megan AWD downpipe
Megan NoCat/Resonator
---------------
Vibrant 12" resonator
Vibrant 12" Ultra quiet resonator/muffler
Vibrant Muffler (large)
Vibrant 3"x9" tip
----------------
Everything is straight through 3" stainless

I'd like to know the best placement of the Vibrant pieces, as the Megan Racing parts aren't really negotiable in location. I'm not to sure what size issues I'll run into, but would still like to have an idea for the best sounding solution possible.

Each piece is different in size to efficiently address certain sound frequency's.

Thanks

Ummmm........May I ask why you want to add restrictions? I thought the idea was to open up the exhaust.

If everything is 100% straight through stainless, then the only resonator you will need is the longest one. It will kill all the shorter wavelengths as well.

Honestly, a 3" mandrel stainless exhaust IS NOT THAT LOUD! I don't know why you're spending so much money on it.

Man, you guys. We're talking an extra $100 here. This way I'll have the option of three different sized resonators to tune the exhaust note with. I'll likely be stuck with a trial and error until I get the cleanest rip through out the rpm band. I'd like to lose the pops and raspy sounds.

Its not my first exhaust, I ran a single resonate/muffler system on my GST and it sounded good. Not perfect, but good enough to drive. I'd like it to sound as close to prefect as I can get it. To each his own.

I spend an extra $150 in exhaust, you spend $1500 on sub woofers....

So, do any of you have info on exhaust resonance, you'd like to pass along? I'd love to hear about work with tuning the sound of our 4g63T.

While driving easy, I'd prefer not to announce my present to every one in a mile radiance; my neighbors, the high school kids in my neighborhood. If it could sound stock and preform, that be good... until I open it up a bit maybe.

I under stand turbos act as mufflers and all. Its not like I cant sell one of the resonators if I don't need it. Thats why I was asking. Shit, its been so long sense I've driven the car; I've forgotten what it even sounds like.

Oh, and all the components are straight perforated cores, so there'll be minimal restriction.

I'm running 3' stainless, with 12 and 18 ' RRE resonators and a magnaflow dual 2.5' out muffler and a 3' high flow cat.

I like the sound. Its loud on the inside of the car though.

It looks almost stock and at first glance you wouldn't notice the difference till you realize each outlet on the muffler is an inch wider. Very sleeper.

Vibrant is the company & I believe, their products are made here in Ontario Canada. I have heard very good things about their exhaust components, such as how their welded, materials used (mufflers use SS shavings machined off a block, not scraps or fiberglass, etc, that cheaper systems use). I too will be picking up some of their components in the near future.

I currently have the Apexi N1 system but am tired of the hassle from cops & having to take time off work to fight their stupid exhaust tickets, when there's nothing wrong with my exhaust according to our highways traffic act. The system is louder then stock but I guess because of the 3" high flow cat, it's definitely not on the loud side. Think more then anything the issue is the look, their use to the large fart can exhausts on civics that can be extremely loud & group me in the same category.

I will be going with a custom system that will look as close to stock as possible. 3" mandrel SS pipe, Vibrant 3" inlet, dual 2.5" outlet muffler & probably dual 3" tips (positioned staggered just like stock). I'm either going with their black "sleeper" muffler or if I go with the polished SS version, Im going to sandblast it for the nice dull stock looking finish, I'm after. The measurements of the muffler are pretty similar to the stock 2g muffler, both about 15" long & is 5 x 9 vs the stock 6 x 11. Outlet spacing is just like stock. For my system I was just going to use one of their 3" x 15.5" body resonators (yes they are 3" all the way through & the resonator on my Apexi system is not) about a foot after the cat, like the stock 2g location. I just looked at my stock 2g system & found there is also a second resonator on the system about 8" long. I was thinking I may pick up one of their shorter resonators as well. About where to place their ultra quiet resonator you picked up, these have a larger body compared to the standard bullet style so placement might be a bit difficult, unless you want it to hang down under the car (that is for a 2g, maybe more room under a 1g).

muffler

tip

In case anyone was curious; here's the rest of the Vibrant pieces I ordered/have.

Oh, and thanks for the detail Daren! I like your idea of dual tips off the muffler; keeping it stock looking. I was going for a last minute curve between the muffler and the tip to eliminate the diagonal muffler look so common with the 1G's.
Now you got me thinking about stock duals... +1/2 inch or so.
Edit: thanks Splitpi.

Sean, those components look great, what do you think of their quality so far? My origional plan was dual 2.5" tips with the rolled end. I don't won't to hinder ehxaust flow with the new setup so when worked out the diameter that was required for dual tips that would equal the same area as a single 3" pipe, found that 2.25" has abit more area. This all seemed great but forgot the rolled tip loses about .5" total because the roll is around .25" all the way around. No good as this now would be a restriction but still didn't want the big flashy tip/muffler look anymore. So I took a look at my stock system & found out the previous owner of the car had actually already installed 3" tips overtop of the stock 2.5" tips that I never noticed before. I dug up some pics of the car when it was stock & to me the dual 3" setup looks exactly what you would think the stock size is for the 2g. Reason being the 2g's have a large retangular cutout for the dual exhaust. With the dual 3" tips it leaves almost a perfect 1" gap on both sides of the tips & above the tips. Basically looks like the opening was designed for these tips & your not trying to squeeze a bigger tip in. I guess the 1g's don't have the cutout in the bumper for the tips? But I don't think a dual 3" setup, if you descide to go this route will look "out of place" if your trying to keep the stocker look.

You know, its funny you ask about the fit and finish of these pieces. My first impression after getting them out of the box was "these are way to nice to go under a car." They look perfect!

I'm on my second Megan Racing down pipe; GST and now gsx, and have to say that while I love Megan's stuff; I think their quality has gone down a little. The welds on the new pipe are no where ne'er as clean as the GST piece bought back in 2005. Using Megan as a yard stick I'd say these Vibrant parts fall One above Megan's better. Although I think its harder to make a down pipe then the mufflers; but still are much nicer than I expected.

I have a Megan resonator/cat that I saved off the gst and it to came with a real nice SS finish. Once I cleaned it up it looks as good as the new stuff next to it. That's definitely a plus to the SS exhaust parts. They look way better than any thing that should go under a car, but the best part is they clean up brand new again. If you didn't know better; you wouldn't even be able to find the one used part in those pictures above. There's one part out of the one's pictured that's almost two years old now! Very nice feature.

You got me looking at other, dual tipped muffler... Not Good... I can't afford my hobby as it is. But I'm thinking the way the 1G's exhaust angles out the way it does, it would be hard to turn a dual tip setup the way I'd like. Well, that's what I convinced my self anyway.

I'll let you guy's know how the exhaust turns out. I tend to be a little picture happy so I should have so pic's to post later... as long as the car come together in the next weekend or so.

Here is what I bought to make my Exhaust:

Megan Racing 2G GST Downpipe.
- 2.25" inlet opens to 3" at the body then necks back down to 2.5" at the flange
- This is a Cat eliminator Downpipe. So I cut the downpipe and reflanged it for 3" with this
- Paid ~$90 shipped + $20 for flange

Bought a 3" high flow cat
- Paid ~$85 used

Bought a 12" and an 18" 3" resonator from Road Race.
- Models ALLI-RESL-30012, ALLI-RESL-30018
- Paid ~$22 & $25

Bought a 3" SS Cat Back Exhaust from RNR racing for about $500 I think.
- Included this magnaflow muffler, it is a 3" inlet to dual 2.5" outlets.

Then I had a shop cut, weld and assemble it for me. So basically I shorted the Megan welded the flanges to it, installed the cat, cut and welded in the resonators. Fixed some exhaust leaks and voala... It ended up being alot more than I had anticipated, but I am very happy with the end result.

Of course the only things shiney and polished were my Megan DP and the Magnaflow Muffler. But if people are looking at the underside of my car, then I really need to work on my driving skills.

Its a bit longer and wider. But looks very similar. I think stock outlets are 1.75", these are 2.5". So at first glance it looks stock (if you mount it in the stock position). I prefer it above the big coffee can look.

Yeah, I was wanting to know if it could be tacked into the stock position. Thanks.

Does this Magnaflow muffler actually measure larger then their spec's then? They list the canister as 14"x 5" x 8", just measured my stocker & it came out to 15" x 6" x 11", so the magnaflow should be abit smaller? (but yes still close to stock size, shape). I'd like to see pics of your setup as well. I had thought about this muffler before I descided to go Vibrant but the thing I wasn't sure about is the outlets having 4" center to center. It appears the Vibrant dual mufflers have the outlets abit closer so that 3" tips will end up being pretty close to each other, like .25" gap. Where as the magnaflow should be like a 1" gap between tips & to me this makes it look like more of an aftermarket muffler (that is if your paying enough attention to notice every detail ;) )

I thought I had a rear photo but I don't, I'll have to take one tomorrow If I remember. Here's some photos of the exhaust after I bought it from RNR. The exhaust shop had to tweak the muffler position to make me happy and position it in the stock location.

To give you a size comparison. The exhaust pipe is 3" and the outlet is dual 2.5"

As promised...heres some photos of it installed. I just used my Camera phone... so they aren't the best.

I dont know about anyone else but to me, this doesnt look anything close to stock. How many stock 2g's do you see that have the muffler in the exhaust cutout insted of just the tips? IMHO, I would have tucked the muffler behind the bumper and just installed a couple of offset tips to bring the margin closer and extend into the stock location.

Agreed. No offense, but that's kinda tacky looking to me.

Tacky, might be a little to harsh. If you were wanting more of a sleeperish look you could've done as they mentioned and kept the muffler itself on the inside of the bumper. What's it sound like?

I've got a 3" ATR 02, 3" ATR downpipe with cat eliminator and an Apexi N1. It can be loud at times, but it really has alot to do with my right foot. I keep the silencer in most of the time. It sounds orgasmic with the BC272s.

Everyone that has seen my car, your the first to say its tacky.

Ah, I apologize. Tacky was a bit to harsh. I dunno, I guess I just expect a more finished look out of exhaust, especially on a car that's so aesthetically pleasing such as yours. But I guess the main thing is the performance, right?
