Hey there everyone. Buddy of mine is looking for an affordable true 3" cat-back exhaust for his 97 GST. Many of the ebay listings are false and do not tell you that the piping is 3" O.D. and 2.6" I.D. or whatever inside. They all seem to taper down at the flange that connects to the cat converter too. I tried to talk him in to something else but he insist to go cheap. Can someone please let me know where they got their true 3" cat-back from off ebay? Preferably one that bolted up pretty well.

Thanks
Jon

Is Tru a company or a brand name?

LOL that would be my fault. Certain words are hard to get away from because of texting. I'll fix that:thumb:

Most of the threads on here that cover what I am asking are not specific and are old. I was hoping to hear from someone that has recently bought one. Everyone talks about the SRS being a nice cat-back but is it a true 3" all the way through? Looking for people that have actually measured their pipes from ebay.

My girlfriend has one on her '90 AWD. I thought the exhuast quality and fitment was better than most commercial brand on the market today. Full 3", mandrel bent, fits like a glove, polished stainless, beautiful tig welds, etc. It's been through one PA winter with lots of salt, etc and it still looks new. It is a bit loud, but other than that absolutely no complaints. One peeve however is the angle of the muffler, which can easily be fixed, but it comes out on an angle, too JDM for my taste..

EDIT: Her's is the SRS brand.

Tubing are measured by the outside diameter. A 3 inch tube with a wall thickness of 16 ga has an inner diameter of ~2.88". You want a 3" I.D. exhaust, then go bigger like 3.25" O.D.

It's not that he wants to go any bigger. He just wants one that is 3" all the way, instead of the tapering at the cat you see with most ebay cat-backs. Thanks for the reply.

Well i dont know if it will help but my ebay cat back system is a full 3 inch till it meets the converter and it is stainless as well. I plan on making the cat forward my self becuse of my build. Its just a matter of looking and reading.

Then make your own 3" conversion piece ($15 +/-) and ditch the reducer that comes with the SRS catbacks, problem solved.

The whole point was to find one that does not taper. And find out from people that have actually measured their pipes. We already know what an exhaust shop can do. They aren't cheap around here though and he's trying avoid the hassle.

i have the SRS catback on my 1g awd, its NOT true 3" all the way through its 3" about 85% but between the two resonators its about 2.80ish(i dont mind at all because i was actually lookin for a 2.5 exhaust). It bolted right up to my 2.5" downpipe without a problem. fitment was GREAT, lined up perfectly with all the hangers. only thing to note is that if you are not using a cat, be prepared to add about 3" to your testpipe, because SRS designed their exhaust to be used with thier 3"-2.25" reducer thats about 3" long.

i cannot speak on the 2g fitment, but overall its a great exhaust, sounds nice and deep not ricey. was WELL WORTH THE 200$ shipped.

It doesn't taper, it had a 4" piece that bolts on to the catback that has the taper, the catback doesn't inherently have a taper. I was suggesting buying your own flanges and a 6" piece of 3in pipe or a piece of 3" SS scrap from their pile and having someone you know weld it for free in that case it would be materials only.

You lost me about the non-tapering because most of the ebay cat backs clearly taper at the flange that connects to the cat. There is no cat converter involved in this setup. The Megan 3" deletes the cat. He is just looking for something as close to 3" that will bolt up to the huge 3" downpipe.

I know what you see in those pictures, but every SRS catback, or no name brand sold on eBay has been a full 3" with a reducing coupler included to adapt to the stock cat, you can opt to not use it and connect it to your 3" downpipe/test pipe. If you check the rest of the SRS exhaust on eBay they show the same for the 240's and DSM's.

Here is the taper on mine. It will be replaced and customized with some of the srt exaust, witch is standing strait up. And a magna flow spun 3 inch converter. All I have to find is a 90 degre bend to make it up to motor oh and stainless. Their is no brand name on mine but when get some more free time I will try and dig thru my ebay acount and find the vender. I think I posted in my build, but not sure.
