When using dsmlink the website says the most common used guage setting "boost". On dsmlink.com they don't show any pictures. Is it just a socketable chip or does it come with a display unit like an SAFC of some sort?

No, DSMLink does not have a display like the AFC. The DSMLink is an EPROM chip that allows you to change the ECU's settings internally using the client software on your laptop or palm pilot. The client software also has the best logging capabilities I have seen. There are tons of screen shots of the client software on the website.... http://www.dsmlink.com/screenshots.html

I am not sure what you mean by the most common used gauge setting is "boost." The DSMLink does allow you to change what the stock "boost" gauge displays (coolant temp, knock, O2 sensor voltage), but a 3 or 5 bar boost sensor must be installed to actually log boost using DSMLink.

Funny you should mention this. I need to pick up DSMLink.. .long story. I also have been thinking about making a carputer. That way, I can use the 7" touch screen to change settings or view whatever I want, mainly GPS :)

Can anyone with DSMLink tell me if I could use it with a little 7" display?

I don't see why you couldn't use DSMLink with a carputer and a 7" display. It might be a little bit difficult to read, but that is the only downside I can see. I've been debating doing this exact same thing myself.

I've been thinking about building a computer into my gsx too. I have 3-4 computers laying around the house. The only real problem would be fault tolurance. Reader heads would hit the hard drive surface everytime you went over a bump. A little re-wireing, some cooling fans and a power inverter & she would work. I might as well put my computer science degree to work somwhere.

I once saw a person suspended the hard drive in the arm rest (in a Camry) using small springs. They put a spring in each corner that went horizontally to the inside of the arm rest. That way it could float or bounce around a little if need be. Hope that made sense.

Yeah that would kick ass having a carputer w/Dsmlink. Goodluck with it man :thumb:
