yes, meet us at that shell we always go to =)

Yeah GL Corey. Would certainly help to make rank

The Navy isn't allowing me to reenlist before the end of my contract anyway but the last 6 months I'm in I'd be getting paid an extra $220 a month if I picked up.

Thanks for the encouragement, the only thing that comes out of taking these rating exams is disappointment though. I wish the Navy would do a FITREP similar to what the Marines use, it keeps the people that should never advance from advancing... What a concept!

This is how bad it was last cycle for my rate to E6.
Number that PASSED the test - 463
Number advanced to E6 - 40
Percentage that advanced - 8.64%
Basically taking the test is a way to blow 3 hours of work the day before a 4 day weekend.

Speaking of picking up, I'm going to be getting promoted again this Friday. Was gonna ask you Kris if you could do the honors and pin me on. Been waiting over 2 years to get promoted again.

I know exactly how that goes, but why can't you reinlist? Higher tenure? I know you can pass the prt so it can't be that... or could be closed rate

Higher tenure is 13 years for an E5, I just hit my 7 year mark. LOL The rating I'm in is overmanned and anyone thats coming up on their EAOS (End of Active Obligated Service) in an overmanned rating gets their PTS (Perform To Serve) denied. The issue with it is that they're choosing who stays and who goes off of NOTHING, not on evals, PRT scores, previous duty stations, etc. They put your SSN in a machine once a month for 6 months (starting at 12 months away from your EAOS) and if the machine says denied each month then you get DAS BOOT.

Heres a recent article from the Navy Times about the PTS program the Navy's "revised" a bit over the last year or so.
Love it or hate it, Perform to Serve is the approval you need if you want to re-enlist.

After beginning with first-term sailors eight years ago, it's now mandatory for every E-6 and below with up to 14 years in who wants to ship over.

And it's the No. 1 concern that Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead hears when he visits sailors. The worry — voiced by sailors and even some commanding officers — is that the system is sending home the Navy's best performers.
We've got a running joke at our command that PTS actually stands for Prepare To Separate.
