hey guys sorry ive been a ghost... im on restriction (gotta love the military). so now that i have all the time in the world for the next three weeks im gona attempt to throw in my knockoff 16g. (gofer said my socker was bout to die at race legal). so i know i need the copper spray for all of the gaskets.... im not using the tubular manifold from xs power (have a bad feeling about it getting a good seal). using all of the stock hardware except the oil lines..... any advice from all of you? i was told to pull the engine fuse and turn it on to prime the turbo....... anyting im missing? also is there any torque specs???? let me know i dont want to start and not finish :notgood:
 
Ah yes, definitely prime the turbo by unplugging the ptu/coilpack IIRC. There used to be a GREAT how-to video w/ step-by-step here, but for some reason it disappeared:confused:

You'll need a J-pipe of course. It's pretty straightforward if you're mechanically inclined and know what you're doing. Prerequisites would be draining the oil [coolant is optional, or just add more later], remove downpipe, unplug o2 sensor, and spray all your bolts w/ wd40, pb blaster, or w/e lubricant you have. I'm pretty sure that the upper radiator hose will come off too.

ok so my 99 gst has a blown head gasket and i remove the valve cover and there is water in the heads. this means one of them is ####ed up right?<br>
well one of my dad's friend is a mechanic and he said he will charge me $275 to remove the head and put it back in and he called a machine shop in IB and he said they charge $150 the rebuilt and resurface the head(homie hook up ha).so im looking at $425 other than buying the head gasket.is this a good price? and one more question is important to use new bolts when replacing a head gasket?

we can give you a lot of good install advice on here but go to VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions or look through the tech articles on tuners to do your install. sucks about restriction, what'd ya do?

Thats not a bad price at all,But you definatly need to buy NEW bolts or head studs.Also use the mitsu oem head gasket,I used the metal one and arp studs just because i wanted to be safe nad I heard nothing but great things about them!

oh ok cool yea i was going to buy new bolts where is the best place to buy them? autozone? yea i was thinking to buy a metal one.which one is better? and should i buy arp studs?

I believe that it has been claimed by a BMW/Euro group. That spot sucks anyway [I live in Eastlake].

Hey guys, I'm knew to the dsm world and San Diego(from vegas). Hey gofer any chance you drive around clairmont or utc? I have seen a red 2gb with a front mount a few times, and looks like your the only one who fits the description.
 
yep, im up in that neck of the woods often. I make trips up to miramar and sometimes take the 5 instead of the 15 south. be sure to say whats up if you see me driving, that goes for everyone on here. It would be cool to put a face to a name, i know before my car caught on fire we had a pretty good group. my cars back and ready to hit the roads again so i can't see why we can't meet up this weekend? ill call alex and mike, hopefully they're down too! :rocks:

The racing scene out here is a lot different so I'm new to the fact that just about all mods are illegal. As long as I dont drive like an a$$ is it chill to have a frount mount out and visible?
 
its definitly not cool to drive around with a huge fmic, the CHP will pull over evos and srt4s thinking there modded just because they see the front mount. my cars platted out of state so i dont get pulled over for it but alex and mike both have front mounts and so far so good since they closed down the state ref.
ill be sure to look for a red 2ga around... there was a red 2gb front bumper cut for a fmic for sale in the classifieds for 30 bucks if your looking at doing the conversion?

hey corey i would have expected at least the decency to let me know you backed out of doing the swap. i wasted my time and gas trying to help you out with this project that YOU wanted done.

not only that, i had stopped working on my own car and made room for your car to fit in the garage.

i had already planned for the tow truck to go pick up the car and you not even returning a call or a text...well, that's just lame and sad. :notgood:

yea I seen that red eclipse a couple. Of times I live right by autozone the guy that drives it used to go to my school(southwest high) but I forgot his nameLOL
