Any difference in Passenger side axles AWD/FWD?

I have did some search on this. Some say Yes... some say No. So can we clarify.


Will a FWD Passenger axle work on a AWD manual transmission passenger side?

If the answer is Yes. Here is another question...

Does the FWD Passenger axle has to be manual or automatic or doesn't matter.

I'm also talking about a 2 gen car.

I dont believe it works. AWD axles have more splines I think. Hope someone else can confirm this.

On a 2g car (manual trans only, I'm not sure about the auto's) the FWD and AWD half shafts are different. You can NOT use an AWD 1/2 shaft in a FWD trans (or the other way around. And yes, I have tried it personally.

The passenger side half shafts, that's what they are called, are the same I believe for a 1g so I assume they are the same for a 2g. I know shafts from different years had different spline counts 90-92 smaller then 93-94. If I were you I would just go buy a new halfshaft from orillies/checker since they are the only autoparts place that sells new shafts or if you are desperated get a rebuilt shaft that won't last as long, your choice but atleast you will know you have a new shaft that is for your car that won't fail. And E85 is right about autos not working on manuals because they are completely different.

FWD and AWD axles are different, they are not the same, Nor the Automatic Axles, (they are different).

To use an AWD axle in a FWD Tranny, you need to change the Diff, to asept the axles.
