Will the FWD axles work on the front for an AWD or are they completely different?

They are different. I have swapped mine out with the AWD tranny and axles in my GS-T.

The right driveshaft will work, but the left one will not, because it's a straight axle. AWD has a two-stage axle (normal drive shaft + intermediate shaft.) From what I've seen working underneath, if it did not have this system, it'd never clear the transfer case. So, the only worthwhile thing you can rip off a FWD is the passenger's side front.

Putting FWD axles on a AWD car is going backwards. You would no longer have equal length axles. The also wont fit into a AWD trans.

(I've personally tried to put AWD front axles on a FWD trans on a 2g and they're a different diameter)
