Hello all, Im new to your forums here, looks like you all run a good site. I have a question (first of a few I wold imagine) Im looking for a 2G convertible for my wife and plan to uprage a couple things on it. Exhaust, intake pipe simple things like that dont want to make it a powerhouse or anything like that, just a good running car with a bit more power that factory and beter handling. My question is this, beside taking mileage into account are there any pluses or minuses between the year models of the 2G's. Ive been looking mostly at 99's ### of mileage but are any of the other years just as good if they have low mileage. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Late 98 and all 99 turbo blocks were manufactured with a split-thrust crank bearing thereby making them more resilient against crankwalk. Otherwise, there's really no difference internally.

Good luck in your search,

Andy

Other than mileage as you mentioned, and the coincidental effects of the years (such as wiring connector corrosion, interior rot, accumulated sun damage and the like), the primary difference amongst 2Gs is which face you like most. Some are keen on the gawping carp, some prefer the squirrel-cheeks-full-of-nuts, and some think the John Wayne Gacy clownmouth is prettiest. Since you're in the convertible market, at least you can rule-out the Talon conundrum, unless you're one of those blasphemers who'd go so far as to create a Talon drophead. But the rubber ends and some minor trim details (like the gauge face colors, and the later narrower headlights) are the only differences in the 2Gs. The cars are all the same, within their powerplant distinctions.
