Another crank pulley gone....

Do you tighten the belt when it's hot or when it's cold? Check it when it's cold, because when it heats up it will get tighter (rubber contracts when heated, unlike most things). Other than that, I don't know. Do you have a stock crank pulley or an underdrive one? My UD pulley requires belts that are 1/4" shorter than stock, otherwise I don't have enough range on the alternator tensioner to get it tight enough.

It has been hot. I will check it when it is cold. I have stock pulleys and belts.

I have tightened the crap out of my alternator belt, that is my problem child. It didn't help. I keep tightening it a little more each time. It seems like it is too tight now (there is less distortion than the manual says), but it still makes noise on cold start up or during idle with heavy electrical loads. I will try cleaning my pulleys and a new belt. I wonder if something in the alternator could be taking a dump? Also, the battery is getting a little old but it cranks fast and I don't have any of the symptoms of a weak battery (dimming gages, flakey radio, etc). Any suggestions?

I had the same problem, it turned out to be the alternator was going out. So I think there is a good chance you will end up having to replace it within the next 3-12 months or so.

What sucks is it might kill the battery with it. Well in my case it did, and I also replaced the ECU at the same time LOL. And I had to replace a starter around that time too sheesh.

If you have a Kragen nearby, they'll check your electrical system for free (battery test, alternator test, voltage test, etc.).

Since they are driven off the nose of the crank any un dampened crank twisting would be transmitted to them as well. Their timing affected just like the cam gears. The silent shafts just keep the block from moving around under the secondary imbalance and do not actually remove any harmonics from the crank,

The secondary imbalance cancelled or not has no effect on the harmonics of the crankshaft.
 
i have a unorthodox pulley on my 1g awd and it never gave me problems. it has been 3 years..
