im trying to wire up my cooling fans to make them come on without the use of a relay if possible. i have aftermarket fans due to space, i have a power and a ground. the ground is easy thats not the problem. i need to know where you guys tap for the power wire. i have tried the rad fan relay but it blew my mpi fuse. i dont know where i can tap for power that will not blow a fuse and i would like it to come on with the ecu if not thats ok too. i just need the fans to come on i really care how. any help would be greatly appreciated oh and i have searched but seems like all i can find are writeups on 2gs. i have a 92 eagle talon

You need the relays. The fans draw too much power to connect directly. The relays are to isolate the control current from the drive current and to switch the AC fan speeds.

Why couldn't you connect the new fans to the original wiring?

the new fans only have two wires. power and ground the factory harness has a plug that has four wires. i tried to splice inton the one that has power only when the key is turned forward but it blew my mpi fuse. one of them has power all the time(from the battery) and the other two i dont know about. i looked at my wiring diagram and spliced into what i thought was the wire that would turn the fans on only when the ecu made them due to the temp and turn off when it cooled. it didnt work. temp got to 200 and no fan kicked on the fourth wire i havent even messed with yet. i used a relay from oreillys but the wires got to close to my mani and melted together toasting my relay. i tried to replace the relay with a new one and got a whole new fan but it still didnt turn on like it used to. i had it on the fog light switch since my car dont have fog lights it made it look like factory no toggle switch the writeups i found talk about wires that i dont see on my car(white, white/black etc.) i have on the passenger side a blue blue/red line black green/blue line i believe i will have to look again. need a writeup for a 1g if you can.

Download this http://www.ecanfix.com/users/manualcd/gift/dsm/1g_circuit_diagram.pdf and go to page 41.

The stock fans also only have two wires each. That's where you would connect the new fans.
For the radiator fan (passenger side) you wanted the blue with red stripe for the positive and the blue with black stripe for the negative out of the four wires in plug A-40. For the condenser fan you want the blue and black wires from A-32.

dont know if it matters but i have the pos of the drivers side and the neg of the drivers side both connected to the pos and neg of the pass side. do i need to tap the ground wire from the plug or can i just ground the wire to the frame. thats how i have it now. the ground wire on the plug is not tapped yet. both fans are grounded to the frame. also i didnt mention that i also have two other fans that are on the other side of the rad to pull air through my bigass intercooler. they are mounted inbetween the rad and the intercooler

Yes it matters. The negative side is common as they are both grounds but connecting the positive sides together bypasses the fan speed control.

I assume that you are trying to run the other set of fans also from the same sources. Four fans may exceed the rating of the circuits the factory used.

keep in mind these are not stock fans. also they were hooked up using a relay until the wires got to close to my mani and toasted them and blew the relay. they worked with the pos and neg together with the relay. i only need the high speed right? no need for low. i have a t-67 turbo and a bigass intercooler not sure if low speed would even effect the temp
