Hey everyone. I have a Palm M105 and i plan on getting hte pocketlogger cable and software. I have a cradle wiht a serial connector at the end. When i try to hotsync it to my computer i place the palm in the cradle (i double check its all the way in) and put the serial in one of the 2 connectors on my computer. I have the Palm Desktop software on the computer. I am using Windows XP Professional with the SP2 update. When i plug in the connector, nothing happens. I dont get a message that says "New Hardware" or anything. when i try to sync, nothing happens. I also have a IBM Workpad (essentially a Palm III) with the cradle and it does the exact same things. Does anyone have any ideas why??? I used the palm FAQs and stuff but nothing works. This is really annoying.

Serial connections are not "hot" within windows like USB ports are. You won't get notification of new hardware when you plug in the hotsync cradle.

You have to make sure the hotsync tool is running (you will see the hotsync logo in the bottom right corner of the screen by the clock). Then, dock the palm and press the button on the cradle. It will then hotsync.

If that doesn't work you will have to change the hotsync settings. Right click on the hotsync manager icon by the clock and verify that both "local USB" and "Local Serial" have a checkmark beside them. Then go to "setup". Up at the top you will see 4 tabs (General, Local, Modem, Network). Click on the "Local" tab. Select the correct serial port (depends on which you plugged the cradle into, and set the speed to "As Fast As Possible". Click OK and try to hotsync again. If it still doesn't work, go back in and try the other serial port name (Should be something like "COM1", "COM2", etc.).

If none of that works, let us know. :thumb:

Enjoy!

You're lucky that you have a Palm.. I have a Sony Clie N610C and the hotsync doesn't even work on Windows XP. I have to be using win 2000 or 98 to even do anything :notgood:
