Hey Im going to be flashing an evo 8 ecu in my 97 talon tomorrow. I used a patch harness to wire up everything including the pin 79 flash wire. Im using a tactrix 1.3u cable. I downloaded ecuflash and purchased evoscan. I went to 96530006 - EvoEcu and downloaded .hex AND the .zip files on that page (can someone explain to me the difference between them?)

Im assuming the steps are as follows --

Plug into the car, select the above .hex file in ecuflash and flash it, open evoscan and adjust injectors, maf numbers. That should be good enough to get it up and running? (cars pretty much stock as far as engine mods)

How do I know if that or any other .hex files have the immobilizer installed?

Sound about right so far?

By this are you asking the difference between the normal 9653 rom and what they have for Tephramod 5.1? the difference is that the Tephramod ROM is just a modified version of the factory 9653 rom that adds in a couple of features (Valet mode, NLTS, along with some others). If you are basically stock then either one will be fine. There is a Tephra V7 available that adds much larger fuel and timing maps along with some other features like boost per gear but I personally would stick with the simpler ROMs until you are comfortable with tuning.

As for tuning you pretty much have it. Load the ROM you are planning on running in ECUflash change the MAF tables and injector size and disable the immobilizer (comes on all ROMs) by going into the Periphery bits and changing the 1 to a 0 for the immobilizer. I also change the tables accordingly (set the immobilizer HEX to US and immobilizer to 0) just to make sure they are off. As for the MAF tables and injectors you might want to go to Ceddy.us and download the 20550011 ROM and open it up to match the evo ROM to the DSM ROM, or at least get it close.

Ok I finally got everything working today!! It took me a while to add the code for my readiness codes found on this site Patch: Force OBD Inspection Pass (acamus, mrfred) - evolutionm.net but I figured out that there is a parent directory (evo7base) and an inherited xml (9653) -- and that I needed to paste the code in the parent (base) xml. Im assuming its like that for all code on any tune? Go into it and find which is the parent and which is the inherited xmls and paste the code in the parent?

Also, when you click that link I posted, theres a script between the two php codes that reads:

Non-Continuous Monitor Completion Patch
@34CD4 DA57 -> EAFF
@34CD6 6AA1 -> 6AA7

Non-Continuous Monitor Availability Patch Part 1
from 4019 to E000

Non-Continuous Monitor Availability Patch Part 2
from 6AA1 to EAFF

Does that mean Im supposed to change something or what?

It took me a couple of hours to figure this whole thing out but Im quite impressed!!

EDIT::

after watching all these videos, I found the answer in video 16

Not really. When you get past the base 9653 ROM and get into the Tephra ROMS they dod away with the EVO7 base and put all the coding for the definitions into the 9653 specifics.

I'm going to jump on this thread. Let me start off by saying I have never tuned before, but am not in a hurry and willing to read/learn.
EVO 8 ECU
1995 Talon Tsi (Inverted CAS)
Evoscan/Ecuflash

I got the evo 8 ecu put in last night and was able to pull the ROM with evoscan and open it with ecuflash. Any good ROM's to start with? I made a copy of the stock one.

One thing that is occuring which is weird.
Here is the situation:
The CEL stays on and I can't access the ecu while key is in on position. I must unhook the battery, reconnect, then key on and then the CEL goes away and I can access the ecu (I hear relays clicking). Once I turn the key to off then back on ...CEL stays on and no access (no relay click) until I unhook/rehook battery again. Is this the immobilizer feature or somthing else going on?
***update*** loaded the same ROM as above and turned immobilizer off ..fired right up
problem mentioned above went away
(coil swap 1&2 3&4 95 cas)

used this for maf
