Hi guys. Well I finished up the eclipse (or so I thought ) and have had it out on the road for the past few days. Seemed to run alright until a transmission line near the radiator failed yesterday and sprayed transmission fluid all over the exhaust. Left about 4 quarts on the side of the road, not to mention the 1/8th mile streak I left on the road. Smoke coming through the vents will wake you up really quick!

Well I got the transmission line repaired and I started to think- The only thing on the car I havent paid much attention to is the cooling system. As preventative maintanence, Im going to replace the thermostat and coolant sensor. Silicon hoses are coming, but I am looking for an aluminum radiator for it. I like the look of the aluminum racing radiators but am looking for a direct fit and function as the original including the mount points for the original fans. I have checked out a few of the websites posted on other threads but didnt find much for automatic transmission applications. Ive tried Fluidyne, Megan and even went to ebay. I dont mind spending a little if its a direct fit and good quality. Any other manufacturers out there besides what I already looked into, or does anyone already have an aluminum radiator in there car that works well?

I have a 1999 GS, non turbo with an automatic transmission. Some websites also asked if the car had air conditioning...well yes I do. And just for laughs, the photo that you see, the streak of trans fluid you see trailing the car also goes the same distance the other direction. Wasnt funny yesterday- gotta laugh now.

I think radiatorbarn.com has the only aftermarket one for our cars. Flyidine use to make some before I believe but not now. The factory auto radiator is pretty efficient with a good thermostat.

Thanks guys...ive priced a few retailer replacements. All about the same price. Just figured if Im going to tear the old one out, may as well put an eye pleasing one in. just want it dependable.

Go to Chaz's Used Auto Parts there in Taneytown, MD. don't know how far that it for you but I was there last week and they had a red 2gN/T (420) and a few more in the lot and one I remember had a good radiator on it. You just have to pull it. I go there about once a week as there DSM inventory changes frequently.

I'm not sure what's going on with this, but there was an aluminum radiator group buy proposed not too long ago:

2GNT.com Forums - Viewing topic - Aluminum Radiator Group Buy At RTM Racing!

i checked it out and the group buy is over. im not sure how well it went since it doesnt say in that link. i went to rtm's website but they dont have it showing aluminum radiators only the honda type. i wish someone would offer a good looking radiator again.

well i didnt know that website was like that so thats my bad. it looks good on the website but its all plastic apparently.

Sorry about that. Since I can't post in the classified section of that forum, I had to get one of the admins to post on my behalf. The last post I emailed him to post on my behalf never got posted (not sure why). In any case, you're correct, that group buy never happened due to insufficient interest. We MAY revisit it in the future, but it's doubtful.

I think if you put it on this website for a group buy it would be successful!
Can't, we're not a "Supporting Vendor". By the way, we have no issue with this, Supporting Vendors pay a lot of money to be able to post their wares and have every right to insist that those who don't, can't.

I havent seen any AL rads that had a tranny cooler built in, so if you find a used one you will need to setup an external tranny cooler.

No one mentioned Mishimoto im surprised, That's what I would go with and I have one direct fit works great lifetime warranty you cant go wrong with it Performance Mitsubishi Aluminum Radiators - Lancer Evolution, Eclipse, 3000GT Racing by Mishimoto, this is from there website i paid about $80 less then this but i did some searching, deals are out there just gotta search

That's because they only have radiators for the 4g63 not the 420a like the OP has.

Sure you can run a 4g63 radiator in a 420a but you would have to make custom hoses for it though.

but couldnt you easliy get the one for the neon motor (420a)?
My understanding is the mounting pins are different. There's lots of solutions: use a turbo rad with custom hoses, use a Neon rad and fab up mounts or re-locate the pins, etc, etc. But a true bolt-on performance rad for a 2gNT doesn't exist as far as we know. By the way, there's a reason for that: the market isn't considered big enough. If it was, at least one of: Mishimoto, Fluidyne, Koyo, Giffin, etc, etc would make it.

well it sucks because from what i have seen they made Fluidyne radiators for the 420a but that was back a few years. and for anyone that is running a decent sized turbo on a 420a car couldnt run a 4g63 radiator if they wanted to since the top hose would come out right over the turbo and exhaust pipe. the stock radiators arnt bad i live in 120 degree weather and it holds up. aluminum radiator is the only thing my engine bay doesnt have to make it all come together for me cosmetic wise.

just seen the link for the neon rads and i wouldnt pay 300 bucks for something that didnt just drop in place. mishimoto is a great brand tho

Well if you want you can shop around that's what I did cause I didn't feel like dropping that much coin on it so I found one brand new in the box for like 200 so the deals are out there and hit some of the other forums might find one somewhere, g/l

Ok Lets not get nasty here buddy and yes I am familiar with the DSM scene owned two in the process of building one right now:thumb:, so fact you said you wouldn't drop money for one that doesn't "drop in" I was simply stating that you can search around for one look on other DSM forums to try and find one that "drops in" so sorry if you read my last statement the wrong way, I was simply agreeing with and saying that I looked around and found one cheaper I understand that Mishimoto 4g63 rad you might have to re-route the pipes(doesn't seem like a big deal to me) and im so sorry that the one for the neon you might have to do some fab work, so before you want to get all bent out of shape think about what your reading. Oh and one more thing doesnt the top of the rad hose come out over the turbo on the 4g63 motor . huh i wouldnt know cause i dont know anything about DSM.:aha:

maybe you forgot the engine orientation that puts the 420a turbo right under the hose instead of beside the turbo like the 4g. Your post was unnecessary and just bad info. 4g rad isn't good for a 420a.
