I would like to rewire the positive wire running to the battry from the alternator.

I was wondering what guage wire to use and it goes stiraght from the alternator to the terminal correct ? throu the fuse i mean.

I thought about doing that project too, if(when) I ever get around to it, im using -0-awg  It almost looks like more trouble than its worth, but then again so is modding a DSM LOL! I wouldnt really see it needed until you start using a 140amp+ alternator tho. Just remember, thicker wire can carry more current. Run the wire the way the stock stuff is run, to the fusible link and all.

u dint answer my question :(

what guage should i use i have a stock alternator max i would goto is like 90 or what ever the canadian model or what ever the hell.

There are two positive wires that run from the alternator to the sub-fusible link.

For the first wire:
The stock wiring for U.S. vehicles is 5mm^2 diameter, which translates to 10 gauge wire.

The stock wiring for Canada vehicles is 8mm^2, which translates to 8 gauge wire.

The second wire is 5mm^2 (10 gauge) on both vehicles.

Both wires white in color.

If you plan on upgrading the alternator, it wouldn't be a bad idea to use 8 gauge wire for both wires.

If you have the 2 wires do as psychlow said.
He should. I was using the 90-91 electrical manual for reference. I can also attest that the information is correct on my 92 Talon because I had to rewire those exact wires myself. :D

I need to correct myself. The above information is slightly incorrect as far as the stock wire sizes - the gauge conversions are correct, but I said that 5 mm^2 and 8mm^2 were the diameters, when in fact it's the cross-sectional area of copper in the wire.

Stealth316.com has a conversion chart and a resistance calculator here if you scroll down a bit.

I guess my explanation didnt help? The part about the 1-0awg wire didnt ring a bell? I woulda' thought you coulda formed an intelligent conclusion based on what i rambled about.
