has anyone had a problem with the belt that rides on the PS, CRANK, WATER PUMP coming off?

anyways this is my problem
car is 95 eclipse gsx
2g alternator relocation kit from jay racing
I was wondering if anyone has fix this problem that i have,
the problem is that the belt that holds the PS, Crank Pulley, and Wtaer pump pulley keeps coming every time i hit 6500-7000 rpms. Since is a 44.5'' is seems that is too long so what i did i went to napa n bought another one that is 1 inch shorter 43.5'' but the problem is still it takes longer to come off because is a little tighter but still comes off when i go past 7000 rpms, I'm tired of this problem. I already call Jay Racing and they told me that is because the bracket from the PS came defected from factory and i need to bend it back a little bit but they haven't fix this problem, everything was put together right if any one can help i will be glad
thanks

my car has a 1g engine in it and i wanted to make the alternator belt ride on the crank, water pump and alternator but if i try to do that the alternator pulley will hit the frame

Try using 3 belts instead of 2:
P/S belt is stock size (695mm / 27.5")
Belt from crank to water pump pulley is 32"
Alternator belt is 32.7"

You have to "walk" the crank to water pump belt on, and you will NOT use the Jay Racing p/s pump spacer.

More info on the 3 belt mod. I just completed the 3 belt mod for jay racing alternator relocation kits. for the crank to water pump pulley, i used a 32 1/4" belt from masterpro. part number is K040315. wasnt too tough to get on, just walk it on by spinning the crankshaft. the water pump to power steering is the stock belt at 27.5" (as stated above) as for the crank to alt pulley, you should be able to use the belt that came with the relocation kit. I had to use a different belt, as i am using a Saturn alternator with a 1.9" underdrive pulley. the belt i used was also a masterpro belt, 33 1/4", part number k040325. hope this help anyone down the road!

Turbosax / Funfetti -

Have either of you had issues with your water pump belt tension? What is your mileage and experience using this setup?

You guys used different belt lengths (Turbosax - 32", funfetti - 32.25"), and I'm trying to decide which route to go.

Thanks

It's been autocrossed and drag raced a few times, and hit up to 7500 rpm's. But I don't make a habit out of staying in high rpm's for long. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to road race it yet.

Any updates as to which belt is better for the crank to waterpump belt? I'm seeing 2 different lengths being posted. I don't want it to slip, but don't want it too tight either.

As for me, I'm using the Dayco 5040330 for the alternator belt with my Jay Racing belt. The one supplied with the kit was too long and even with the adjustment all the way out, the belt kept coming off. Even lost the adjustment rod once because it was at the very end of the threads. No problems with the 5040330 belt. But the adjustment has to be taken ALL the way in before putting it on.

And of course the stock p/s belt as well, but wondering which belt would be best for the waterpump before I put that one on. If it helps any, here's the 2 part numbers I have so far.

Dayco:
Alternator belt (for me anyway), 5040330
Power Steering belt, 5040274
Crank to Waterpump, still in question. Trying to go buy one tomorrow.

P.S. I think it'd help others to post part numbers with the brand like one person did already, versus just a length (although that helps as well). Just my 2 cents on the matter though. Nice to have as much info out there as possible for others.

No issues, about 1000 miles on it. Just MAKE SURE you rotate the engine clockwise when 'Walking the belt on'. If you go counter-clockwise, you risk jumping the timing belt a tooth or 2.. I did this, so i had to tear everything off (including the alternator and bracket to get the timing cover off) to re-time the engine..

As for the length, Its pretty tight, I havnt had any issues with slipping at all, and my engine has seen hard pulls to 8250rpm. I havnt been able to track it get, but It should be back in the tuning process again this week. I will report back if any issues come up.. If i dont, assume all is well and working properly.

Wondering how tight the belt is that you guys are using. I went and bought the belts today for the crank to waterpump. Measured it before I bought it of course and got the 32.5 belt and figured I'd try it out. The Driverite and Dayco were both the same length.

This is what it looks like after installed. Not sure if you have the same amount of slack or not but seems like it's pretty loose to me.

Okay, I didn't like the belt so I went and exchanged it for this one...

Lots of great info here. I just wanted to add that I recently had to deal with the same issue. I too went with the 3 belt setup however this car had an ATI fluidamper on it which is a bit bigger than the stock crank pulley so I ended up using a 330 belt from the crank to the waterpump. Hope this helps.
