has anyone had any problems with the battery light not turning off on the dash till after the engine is reved past 2500rpm?.. also when my car idles for like 5 mins.. it dies and won't start.. the battery is 2 months old.. and i had it tested at auto zone.. the battery tested fine.. how hard is it to change an alternator on a turbo 2g? just recently the srs light came on just before it died?.. what is that light mean?.. i can't find anything in the service manual about it. thanks for any help...

Go back down to autozone and have them hook up their machine. It tests your battery, alternator and starter in about 5 minutes and it's free.
did that.. they said the output check on the alternator failed.. but they wanted me to bring it in and bench test it.. that's puts me down for a day... tried the battery cable thing too... and sure enough.. it died... thanks for all the help guys.. looks like i have a new alternator job to attend to.... on the plus side.. i just installed an HKS Hiper cat-back exhaust today.. it's back to autozone i go.........!!!! then to home depot.. still need some more little things.

volt-meter you should have 14.** at the battery when the vehicle is started and 12.7 when its off. If it doesnt raise to 14V as you start the car then its the alternator or charging related issue which it obviously sounds like anyways

Sorry to bring up such an old thread but i tried what was stated here earlier regarding taking of fthe negative battery cable to see if the car would shut off and i did it and the car kept running.
I am very confused cause my battery light and brake light are on but the alternator is fine and so is the battery. What now ??

Could having a bad alternator fuse probably be causing my battery/brake lights to come on ?

Maybe my alt. is on its last days and is behaving "good" i guess for now.
I just changed the alternator fuse 10 minutes ago and the lights are still there.

As you say, maybe it is just behaving and about to die. If you have a volt meter check if the voltage. Usually 14.3 volts is optimum, if you see it around low 13 volts then it is slowly dying. Since you have already ruled out the fuse and battery, you might consider swapping the alternator out. Most people do not usually get the warning you are getting, i know i did not...the car limped to a stop real fast ;)

Mine did the same thing. I re-wired my alt with 4 gauge, re-grounded it to the chassis and block and switched alts. I was using new reman'ed alts. from Checker and the voltage regulators in those are junk. I finally broke down and got an OEM galant 90 amp alt. and my problems are gone.

By the way, by checking your alt. by unhooking the battery is an easy way to fry your ECU.
