my alternator recently died and i bought a new one and i removed the old one with no problems. I pretty much had no problems taking it out and i took it out from the top. Now when i try to install the new alternator i cant seem to get the alternator to go into the alternator brace and its real tight so i can barely move the alternator around to make it fit. Now im trying to install the alternator from the top, i cant put it in from the bottom because the oil filter housing or water pump (not sure which)is below it so i it wont go in from the bottom. Now do i have to remove the alternator brace? and if so how the hell could i do that without removing the pulley thats in front of it?

thanks any help is appreciated.

Did you remove your ac fan when your removed the alternator? Because that will definently limit your space to move around, if you took it out through the top you'll get it back in just be patient you're halfway done you'll get it.

Get it lined up and bolt the alternator thru bolt into the bottom first dont tighten it up all the way, then get your belt on the alternator pulley and push the alternator down some to put some tension on the belt , tighten that alternator thru bolt down then attach brace/bracket to the alternator hook all your wires back up and get the belt tensioned.

yes, i removed the ac fan out of the way but it seems like the brace is in the way for me to line up the holes on the bottom so i can put the bolt thru.

The alternator itself has little bushings in the holes of the alternator (Where the long bolt goes through), sometimes you have to tap the bushings from the inside to make the bushings flush with the alternator housiing where the bolt goes through. This is very true for the 2G alternator, but I think it can be the same for a 1G.
