Alternator prob

Hey, Recently I figured out my alternator is on its way, took off the negative terminal off the battery when the car was running and it turned off. This alternator had about 6 months on it and about 2k miles, it was one of those autozone (pos replacements) my friend got me through his warantee. Another thing that let me to this was that the dash lights, the battery and radiator one were sort of dimming at low rpms, like on and off very lightly, but the battery never got drained, I guess teh alternator was in the process of taking a shit. So after doing the said test, I figured I need another one and scored a jdm alternator for 25$ off ebay. I put that one in, and the dash lights were actually on like a christmas tree, the same ones taht were dimming. Pissed off, I remove the facker and go to murrays to get them to do a test on it. Low and behold, the machine says its ok, I dont belive them and I tell them to run the test again, the machine still says its ok. I start cussin. Are these tests really accurate? Friend works at murrays and told me that they always arent. THanks for any input.

the test ## talking about is probably a pass/fall test. Go to a shop that tells you the reading it putting out. Oreillys tested mine after Autozone said it was good. Come to find out that ir was only pushing out 10 to 11 instead of 14...
