alternator belt keeps snapping

ok so i replaced the belt for a first time and it snapped about after a week. so i figured i tightened it to tight. i replaced it again and this time i had someone look at it and they said it was perfectly tight. but about a week later the belt snapped again!

could it be because my alernator is offset causing the belt to rub or what could it be?

I had that same exact problem, exact mine would brake after 2-3 weeks. It turned out that I was missing the VERY bottom bolt ( the long one) that goes through the alternator. When I bought a 10$ alternator bolt replacement kit at autozone, it fixed the belt snapping problem and I've gone 4 months with no problems so far (knock on wood). So check that all the bolts are in your alternator. You can't see the bottom bolt from above the car, it's easier and faster to just check from under. Good luck!

Shaking - sounds like the lower pivot bolt isn't tightened up - got loose somehow.

Being loose, the ALT is just hanging on by the upper bracket, which will ( due to shaking) loosen up the bracket bolt, on the other end of the bracket, that is attached to the block.

the belt broke on my to walmart.... sigh torn right in half. guess i'm gonna buy another and try it again. does anyone know the correct tension that it has to be at?

I'm not sure if there is a "correct" amount to tighten it, just keep going untill it feels very snug to your touch. Don't overdo it, but just make sure it feels tight to you. Again +1 on the lower alt. bolt being gone / loose.
