Alt. Belt Squeal

Now the weather has gotten extremely cold, I find that my Alt. belt is squealing cuz im runnin the heat on high and lights and all that other good stuff. from previous experiences with my ford probe, and assuming that my 95 TSi is the same way, all it needs it tightening. Anyone know where the tensioner is located and have a pic they could send me of it? [email protected] . If im wrong, please point me in the right direction on how to fix the problem.

The tensioner is right at the alternator. You need to wedge your hand behind the raditor to adjust it. Loosen the locking bolt first then tighten (clockwise) the tensioning bolt. Start with one full turn (six partial turns of the hex nut) and see if it fixes your problem.

A very small adjustable wrench or a stubby cresent wrench will do it. No way to fit sockets in there.

I find that a 12mm wrench is the easiest to get in there from the top. Thankfully I have been blessed with skinny hands. :laugh:
