Alt. belt keeps getting loose.

Ok so a while back, i ran into problems with my car dieing and such. I found the alt. tensioner bolt was gone. dont ask me how but it was gone. So i put a new bolt in it and it keeps like belt tight for roughly 200 miles. Then it starts squealing and when it sqeals, i check it and its allways loose. It stays tight for awhile but does loosen back up after awhile. So, my question is what can i do to make sure this stops coming loose? i mean, it doesnt take long to tighten it but its a pain. I have someone push down on the alt. with all their weight while i tighten the bolt and its perfect every time but eventually comes loose. Im getting ready to go back home (3hr drive) so id like to know what i could do before i leave. Thanks.

You could try threading on a nut to 'but' up against the mount. That should keep the long bolt from coming loose. Loc-tite might also work.

And it's for sure coming lose and it's not just the belt stretching? It's supposed to have a piece with a bolt going through the other way too which is for adjusting it. If you have that part missing and are just using a bolt, get a good washer that will give the bolt some grip on the bracket.

allright. im getting a few washers from my moms bf's machine shop. But yea im just using a bolt so ill ttry the washer. im pretty sure its just not tightening enough allowing it to move back and cause the loose belt. its not loose loose, but enough to stop running the alt as much. the p/s and water pump still work properly, but the alternator wont get enough charge which causes dim lights and stuff.
