I have 5 1/4 and they are to small for my speaker holders in there, but i also have bigger ones, dont remember the size, but they were just slightly bigger then the speaker holes. Were can I pic up por-15 and would that help considering it at through? That just adds t\o my list of cut and weld.

I have 6 1/2's in my doors, they were slightly bigger than my speaker mounts as well, but I just drilled new holes and screwed them in. They sit flush in the mounts and everything. Mine is 2G though. It may work in the 1G as well.

The stock size for the door speakers in 1g's is 5 1/4" but you'll likely have to drill new holes regardless. Some 6.5" speakers will fit as well as long as the magnet isn't too big.

OR.. I've had really good luck with this stuff called "Rust Encapsulator" that Eastwood sells. What's cool about that product is you can get it in aerosol cans! :thumb:

ok I was just going to sell my speakers and buy new ones but i guess i will drill around, and what are the rear one 6x9 right? and arnt there 4in speakers in the dash also.

The other thing im worried about tho is the eat through. I thought that sprays and antirust solutions only work on surface rust?

I think the rears are 6x8..If you want 6x9 you have to take out the speaker brakets behind the panals and basically cut out a new hole in the panel..Then screw in the new speakers, and add the new grill..

The front's are probably 20 year old junk speakers by now..You would have to take them out and measure to get new ones that will drop right in..

As far as the door speakers..Yes drill new mounting holes and your new ones should fit right in there..You might have to take out the holder type deal for the old speakers to get the new ones to fit...

An electric drill and a wire wheel works wonders with rust then treat it, on the rear speaker, a 6x9 will fit even if the magnet hits the inner wheelwell. A couple of strategic taps with a sledge hammer and a piece of 2x4 will get the job done and it's not even noticeable, it's simple. Been there, done that

we are aware it is a 1G. The pics depict that clearly. :p

You shouldnt't have to force the speakers to fit with a sledge. they should fit, and there are slim speakers made for doors and such available that you can use for the reare if a normal 6x9 will not fit.

Sorry I thought 1g couldn't fit 6x9 even with the "gentle persuasion". My bad, just lacking the info on the 1gs. That's why I said not sure if it matters.

Black Widow is correct.."Normal" 6x9's will not fit directly in the 1g rar speaker spot..You either have to get slim speakers or cut to fit..

But I din't even know they made slim speakers so that's cool..Mine are already cut for 6x9 so I'm not gonna have to worry about it..I might tho get new speakers for the front and doors..
