Almost done just need cams!

What's up everyone?

Just excited and wanted to show my progress.

I have to order my cams still. I am about 95% sure I want to go FP1X/FP2 combo (I do have Crower springs and Ti retainers). I am going to call FP tomorrow and see if they talk me out of it. Being that I have a BIG 16G, I know FP1X/FP1X would give me more usable torque. But I plan on going bigger on the turbo and SMIM so I don't want to limit my self on high RPM's. I have searched and read all the posts about FP cams. Also examined the cam profiles on there website. If anyone has tried this combo I'd sure appreciate some words of wisdom.

Look into the comp cams 200s, but you sound like you already know exactly what you want.

Go with the 2's, don't limit yourself if your going to go bigger in the future.

I read your mod list and that's pretty much exactly how I want my car. Do you think the crower springs and TI retainers can hold up to the FP2X/FP2X combo. Also do you think it will run like poop untill I get the 50 trim and SMIM? I don't think I would mind a rough idle. I didn't get a chance to talk to Mike at FP he was at lunch, but I did E-mail him with my mods and asked for advice.

The Manleys Hold up just fine to banging off the stock rev limiter everyday (well actually I can get to about 7700 in 2nd since the revs are climbing so fast )

But I see no reason why it wouldn't run fine, you might loose boost up top but that would just be because the engine would be flowing more air then the turbo...

I only lost a couple hundred rpms in spool with the FP2x's and SMIM at the same time.

Well I E-mailed Mike at Forced Performance and he said,

"Well if those crowers were installed by your machinist with at least 300psi over the nose seat pressure then I would say go with the FP2X’s since they’re going to be your most aggressive cams. However I highly doubt you machinist would have installed those crowers that way without instruction to do so, in that case I would go with the FP2’s since they don’t require you to run the dual valve spring setup. The FP1/2 setup is not really a good idea seeing as how these cams don’t have any sort of idling problem like the old HKS cams of old had. I would just go straight with a set of FP2’s and that should yield you the gain you’re looking for. "


I am having a hard time understanding why the unit measurement is in psi "300 PSI", what does PSI have to do with the spring pressure? I think he means LBS. Also would "over the nose" mean peak of the cam profile and wouldn't that mean open pressure?
Brian Crower Spring Pressures:

Seat: 1.500" @ 95 lbs

Open: 1.000" @ 235 lbs

Coil Bind: 0.910"



From what I'm reading Crower springs have no chance in hell of reaching 300 LBS seat or open pressure. The Manley springs show 295 LBS open in there catalog so that must be why CanadianTSI is fine running the FP2X's. Man I wish I would have known the Crower springs are only about 15% stronger that stock.
It looks like FP2's for me.
