ok, I have 2 questions
1. Is my air/fuel guage going to work since my second o2 sensor is not connected (the one under the car?

2. How does the air/fuel guage light up when the dash lights come on if it is on if it is only tapped into a power, ground, and o2 sensor port on the ecu like everyone says to do. Don't I need to tap a wire into somthing that comes on with the lights?

Answers:

1. Yes it will work. Your A/F readings are taken from the upstream O2 sensor that is located on your O2 housing. The rear O2 is only there for emissions purposes.

2. I am assuming you are talking about the standard autometer A/F gauge. This gauge only lights up on the actual readings(red, yellow, green). The face itself is not backlit like the boost guage. So no you should only have three wires because the guage will be "lit up" day or night.

BTW don't use the A/F guage for any margin of error when tuning. Standard A/F guages will not give you the information that will keep you from destroying your car. Honestly what I used it for when I had one was to tell me if the O2 sensor was working withing spec but thats about it. Once I got the AFC and did the blue wire mod CORRECTLY I had no need for an A/F guage. Once again you should not use the A/F guage for tuning.

What mod are you refering to as the BLUE WIRE mod?

There is a blue wire than is not used on our cars but has a read out on the AFC. Alot of guy swill hook that to the O2 wire, ala A/F gauge, and just watch the actual volt reading of the wire on the AFC.

Bad idea the s-afc puts too much of a load on the sensor and draws down the values...don't do this.

On another note having the gauge will instantly show you if you fail to fire on a cylinder, drop an alternator, or burn a valve....it isn't all worthless just no good for tuning.

I agree if it is done wrong or sloppy it can cuase problems with the sensor, but if the soldering is done right it works fine. I tried this out a while ago with a logger. The readings were the same. But if you just vampire clip it or (God forbid) twist it in your asking for trouble.

Vampire clip is that cheap ass thing you get from autozone or any electronics store that allows you to put two wires together and crimp them to tap them. Find for hooking up some things but when screwing with any guages or the ECU this can be very dangerous.

I would never use one of these if I were you. Soldering is not that hard, just make sure you disconnect the harness from the ECU before you get started.
