today my air filter fell off, and i know its been the entire day and probably last night. driven over 150 miles today and its possible it fell off in anytime at that period. my question is do you believe there might be damage to the engine?

It's not likely that a rock could find it's way up there, but it definitely can happen. If something had happened, you would notice a difference in the performance of the engine. Get a filter on there soon. Until then I wouldn't drive it.

If you need to drive it....zip tie some panty hose over the inlet. Make sure it doesn't get sucked into the turbo or else you're really ####ed.
That or use screen door mesh. If you get the metal kind it wont get sucked into the engine but the plastic screen doors ###### a middle option between the panty hose and the metal screen...
Or just get a new filter ;)

You should be fine. A short while without a filter shouldnt hurt anything, like said above unless you suck something in. I would try not to drive it until you get a new filter or like the others said use something to over it up, but also allows air to pass.

ok so i have a new problem... i went to advance and bought an air hose from APC but it doesnt fit right because the battery is on the way. has anyone had luck with stainless steel airhoses less then 150 dollars, looking for short ram on non turbo eclipse

Ok, say that again?

Air hose? For what? Did you whole entire intake fall off or something?

Whoa whoa whoa dude. I don't know of anything directly intake related (other then MF)that would run upwards or around $150. You shouldn't be paying alot for a hose. The hose you are refferring to is a bypass from the crank breather to the intake. You can use standard feul line (rubberish material) for this. Other then that, the intake is basically a pipe with a filter. You could find one on ebay for less then $100 I'm sure.

no it didnt fall off, the rubber hose keeps kicking off the rubber on the K&N so i cant get it to work right unless i get a metal one. the metal one that i got was an APC one and i didnt fit. im looking to see if i need a metal one and if i do, where should i look for one so this can fit.

ok... i need something secure and works. i need a metal short ram air intake hose that actully fits. the one i bought barely fits and will only work with duct tape. any good recommendations

Have you tried Ebay? Any generic intake pipe should work, and you can also use it with a K&N filter if you want to. And when you install it please make sure the couplers are securely tightened with the clamps so it doesn't fall off again.

Ahhh I think I understand now. Yea I bought a short ram intake off ebay for next to nothing and it's worked pretty well. I actually kind of had a tough time getting it to fit on correctly too, because of the battery being in the way because the bend in the pipe was off a few degrees (remember you get what you pay for), but after a couple minutes I ended up getting it on quite securely with the clamps that are supplied and have been happy with the results.

Guys, there's only two bolts holding the battery in place.

If the battery gets in your way, loosen the bolts holding it down, and move it to the side an inch or so. Tighten it back down, and you just made room for your intake.

Make sure these 2 don't rub or over time your intake pipe will be grinded down to an opening.

I just took my battery tie-down off. Battery never moves. If you go to the track often I think they require you have it on. I had the same problem with the pipe grinding down and I had an AEM short ram pipe. Made me pretty mad because I adjusted it right and it still grinded down over time since I never checked it.

Original Poster: APC usually never fits good with our cars that I have seen, check out eBay for a cheaper short ram intake pipe kit and make sure the piping is big (or small) enough for the filter to clamp on. Usual sizes range from 2.25-3". Did you get the right diameter filter? Is it a regular cone filter?

Decided to be nice and post a link to an intake kit for $38 shipped. There ya go, everything you need.

Yes, it does. You CAN move that battery an inch or so, easily. I've done it more then a dozen times. Loose the top 2 bolts, push the battery to the right side of the tray and inch or so, then hook the long prongs back into the tray, and tighten the 2 bolts back down.

Moves the battery for you and makes room for the intake. That's the ONLY solution I found for the rubbing and wear in the pipe.

i got the apc to work but a part of a pipe is close to coming off the TB... duct tape?

In my area I live right now the auto stores don't ever have couplers in stock. When I lived in Houston though, I could find them at all of them. Measure your intake pipe diameter to know which size coupler to get and try your autoparts stores that are local to you. If your autopart stores do not stock couplers, try going to a hardware store and look in the plumbing section for one that is close. I did that and it worked well. Had to cut a bit off of each size for the right length, but it fit nicely afterwards. If you do not wish to use a hardware store type, eBay may be your next option.

The coupler that came with my intake fit onto the TB perfectly, but didn't fit onto the actual intake tube 100 percent the way I would've liked it to. I ended up making it work anyways with the clamps, and it hasn't failed me yet. Please don't duct tape it on. I've seen people put bungie cords on their intakes and it drives me insane. I guess if you want people to laugh at you for the way your intake is hooked on, or just don't care what it looks like, then go ahead. But I'd at least try clamping it on in some way before I ever resorted to that, depends on your preference I guess. Just my .02.
