AGP intercooler kit a good match for evo III 16g?

I have pretty much decided to go with the evo 3 16g for my car. Im now trying to find a good intercooler kit. The agp kit seems great, spearco core, short rout piping, and can be set up for blow through maft. I wonder through if it will be too much intercooler for the evo iii. Keep in mind though that i may want to upgrade turbos farther in the future.
 
i have the fmic and love it, im using it with a gt3255 right now and soon ill be using it with a gt35r. this thing works alsome and a great price. i have it setup for the blow thru style, i think i was the first one to have this done from them and for being the first time its realy great. all though the tclamps he gave me didnt fit around the gm mas sense they were only 3'' and u need 3.5 '' clamps. but they did fit on the pipe. for a b16g i dont see it being to bad, i mean this fmic is an over kill fmic for just about anyone sense its rated around 600 hp(if im not mistaking). if you are going to upgrade i would say for sure get this even if you arnt i would still say go with it LOL, its just that great of an fmic for the price. :thumb:
 
thanks that would be cool, i would like to see how the blow through set up is, well, set up. Do you think the pressure drop from the ic is off set by the short route pipe?
 
oh another question

will i beable to install and run this ic, and evo3 16g with a maft without really tuning it? that is, can i keep the boost around 15 psi untill i save the money for a good tuning package and injectors?
 
You can run 15 psi on the stock side mount and injectors all you need is a pump if you dont have one yet. Anything above 15 psi the stock sidemount will heat soak quickly and performance will suffer. 15 psi from a 14b is the same as 15psi from your EVO its just a pressure reading.

not sure if this was just a typo' but 15 psi from a evo is not the same as 15 psi from a 14b, it is a pressure rating but, the evo will blow a larger volume of air at 15 psi
 
ah i see, so i may need to run less boost untill i have more fuel/tuning mods?
 
Keep in mind this kit is meant for a turbo which compressor outlet points straight down meaning 20g or garrett. You are going to have to be creative when trying to adapt it to work with a Jpipe. I have some installation pics i could post if you want.

well does not the j-pipe make a down flow outlet in effect?
 
Think about how a garret compressor outlet looks and how a Jpipe looks. The lower IC pipe of the kit is a certain length. The kit comes with a 90* plastic coupler connects the turbo to the lower pipe.

UNLESS YOU HAVE SOME EXTRA HOSES AND COUPLERS TO GET CREATIVE, THE KIT WILL NOT BOLT UP. IT IS NOT MEANT FOR A J-PIPED TURBO! AGP will tell you the exact same thing. Look at my J pipe, it points down but the lower IC pipe doesn't meet up with it because the J pipe is too far to the left. Makes sense now?

well looky here, so i could basicly cut that thinner end off the back pipe, add a bead then add another small pipe with a 90 on it to conect the j pipe to the back pipe?

or it looks like the j pipe that dejon tool sells comes around at a different position.

i apretiate all this advice. thanks guys
 
You could do that but personally I used parts of my 2g install kit to make up the differences because I knew I was going larger. Now that I have a larger turbo I can just use the rubber 90* joint that came with the kit and I wont have a fitment problem.
 
did you ever get agp fmic for you evo16g turbo?bc i have the same turbo and trying to choose between adfx or agp fmic,and trying to find info about both.thanks
 
The AGP kit is not designed for a Mitsu turbo. If you get the AGP kit and don't have one of those nifty Jpipes that come down to the same area as a Garret compressor housing it will not bolt up and you are going to be upset.
 
It's pretty noticable. Next to the oil cooler you should be able to see the black coupler. That entire triangular piece was removed. If you cut just a hole then it wouldn't give much room for movement.
 
The problem comes in where the standard j-pipe comes down on the passenger side of the motor mount making it hard to connect to. You will need a j-pipe that comes down on the drivers side of the motor mount, and then a 90* coupler and you will be set. Slowboy Racing sells these if AGP can not provide that pipe.
 
i emailed agp and they said that their fmic kit will fit a evo 16g tubro with no problem.everything you need will come in the kit that you need.
