Aftermarket Valve Cover?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

That is what I believe to be the 'shaved' stock valvecover, and the coil on plug kit from RRE or one of the better shops. Cleanest bay I've seen in a while.

hey thanks alot. I really like the way that looks. What kink of spark plug caps are those. (not sure if thats what there called) (black boxes) Any good dsm spots in Houston i live 50 miles form their.

Those would be ignition coils, hence the name 'coil on plug'. You plug the wire that used to run to your coilpack into the COP arrangement, then toss the coilpack, your spark plug wires, and the plug cover in the trash. Push the COP down, screw it in where the old plug cover used to go.

Not exactly a stylistic thing... it gets the maximum power to your spark plugs by putting the coilpacks *right there*, so you don't have to worry about wire degradation. I'm thinking of doing it myself, as I suspect a fault in my coilpack. I believe that Slowboy Racing keeps COP systems in stock.

thanks for the info. Is there any down side to using this setup? Is it worth the 300-500 bux?

I'm not sure that it is worth the money since there are many people going VERY fast on the stock ignition system. If you do suspect your coilpack is faulty, then you may consider it for a replacement. However, if you think about it, a set of good wires will run you close to $100, and so will a nice wire cover. So you could cough up another $100 and go ahead, but I would spend my 300 eslewhere.

It depends on what kind of shop you are talking about. If you are looking for parts, there is no better place than online. Can't beat the price or competitive market. If you are looking for dyno/tuning or even a good turbo, then you should look up TurboChargers.com in Houston. My father lives in Lake Jackson so I know the area. Last time I was there, there was a shop over there that did a lot of truck customization, but was trying to venture into the sport compact market. It was by the old HEB and Jack in the Box (damn, can't think of the street). There was a very custom white Caviliar parked outside. Their prices were very steep and they didn't know too much about sport compacts, though.

Don't forget the $70-100 for a new coilpack if it dies. So there's around $300 right there. The stock ignition system is sufficient. You can go plenty fast on it. It's a question if you want that extra capacity... the stronger spark, cleaner combustion, and less that can screw up. :)

TC is not the place to go for tuning. AWD tuning in houston should be done at SGP ( www.sgpracing.com for rates) and if it's FWD tuning i'd suggest Autologic as well. Both Mark at SGP and Jason at Autologic are awsome tuners. You'd be hard pressed to find a DSMer in Houston that would recommend TurboChargers. If you simply want a street tune with a logger/afc or something similar go with FIST which is pretty much Houston's sole dsm shop or ask someone on htown-dsm.com to help.

As for buying a turbo, I'd stick to shopping online. But if you want to buy local, Autologic has some good deals with PTE
