I installed the pump, that was a pain but it got done, now at about a half a tank of gas the low fuel light comes on. So I figured I'd listen to the gauge instead of the light. That was a mistake. I ran out of gas just above empty. My question is, what'd I do wrong that causes my fuel gauge not to read correctly and kick my low fuel light on before I get anywhere near empty?

Make sure your tank floater isn't stuck. Does the gauge move at all, or just stay put at 1/2 tank? If it's not moving, you might have accidentally disconnected the wire that goes to the sending unit. It's like an 8 million gauge wire (i.e. t-i-n-y) so it would be an easy thing to break/disconnect and not notice.

I would pull the pump bracket and make sure the floater isn't stuck, and check those wires. I know the wiring config for a 1g, but I'm not sure how it differs from 2g. Sorry, I'd hate to give you the wrong wires to check

But there should be 4 wires. One is ground. One is power. One is Idiot Light, and the other is sending unit/gauge. That should give you an idea

or you bent the little arm on the floater on the sending unit.If your wiring is straight, and you wanna try and bend it back good luck,but it's hard to get it back to the right angle,i would just replace it if thats the case and you have the money.If the floater doesn't move freely, you can also try to clean the contacts with a pencil eraser.good luck with it.
