How can a adjustable regulator be used to tune? I have a MAF-Translator. The only theory I came up with was tat I could use the extra fuel at base to change the pressure under boost. Then I could set the translator to trick the ECU that less air is entering the engine so it would increase timing and since the ECU does not know the a/F ratio or amount of fuel, even though it sets it according to the air it sees, I could run more timing under WOT with a safe a/f due to the extra fuel I put in as the base pressure. Does this make any sense at all?
If I am out in left field how does an adjusytable regulator help tune? Thanks, mark

The leaner you can go, the more timing your ECU will advance. Raise the pressure and trick the ECU with a piggyback into thinking there is less fuel going into the engine and you'll have nice timing, with the proper amount of fuel entering the engine (due to the higher rail pressure... oh wait, you already said that. You are not out in left field. Max on a stock system? I'm not sure but my lines have seen 80psi before. No leaks. Remember, fuel pressure raises with boost in a 1:1 ratio.
 
OK Tim, I have the GM MAF-Translator. Here's my logic expanded. By raising the base "X" amount of pressure I can turn the WOT adjustment knob in the translator counterclockwise which tricks the ECU into "thinking" less air is entering the engine, like I'm cruising at a steady 70MPH for an example. The ECU then adds timing and sets the a/f not "knowing" that more fuel is actually there(available) so that there is no knock and the timing stays so I am at WOT with extra timing and a safe a/f ratio? Does that sound correct? If so what are the good regulators? Thanks for this very valuable info as I could not figure the reason for an AFPR> Mark
 
Sounds good. I use a non-turbo fuel pressure regulator. Has a base timing of a perfect 43psi. Raises with boost and I didn't have to spend $140US on a aftermarket one.
 
My base pressure with the vacuum line hooked is around 34 psi. 40 with the line attached. I see you added a turbo to a na car but why does the regulator increase psi with boost? mark
