ok so i'm getting ready to wire up my wideband and want to put it in either the front or rear o2 position and want to log it thru the ecu but was wondering if it would pull a code if i disconnect either one and run my signal thru either one. I live in NC so i can't have any codes pull up to pass inspection.

are you talking about the white wire? and that won't pull a code?

You can hook it up in the front o2 location, i'm guessing u don't have dsmlink or any kind of datalogger since it's not in your profile, so i wouldn't disconnect the front o2 unless you plan on wiring the wideband into the ecu, if the aem has a narrowband simulation wire, hook up that wire and the datalogger output wire of the wideband to pin 76 on your ecu. If you are not going to wire the wideband into your ecu then i would get a new bung welded for the wideband and leave the front o2 hooked up.

Sorry I forgot to add that I have evoscan into my profile. So just wire it up and no light? Would I have to leave my o2 plugged up and just tap the ecu directly, or could unplug it?

Put the sensor in the rear location! sticking it in the front location can cause damage to the sensor. READ THE DIRECTIONS THEY GAVE YOU!......."if you have a turbocharger or bla bla bla, you must put the gauge AT LEAST 3 feet from the exhaust ports so you dont overheat and kill the sensor.

As for narrowband mode, why would you buy a wideband sensor which is far supperior then any nernst sensor and run it in narrow mode:confused: Sounds like a waste of money

Now im not familiar with your tuning software you have but why cant you just run the wideband in its native mode and tell the ECU to use that sensor and not use your other??? you will get way more accurate information from the wideband then your stock sensors.

just my two cents

You def don't want to put it off the o2. Any car I have seen with it there, burns up sensors very quickly.

If you don't have the skills to weld an o2 bung onto your downpipe, there is always this option-

http://www.maperformance.com/aem-no-weld-o2-sensor-mount-fits-2.25-2.5-tube-30-2355-250.html

Basically, you clamp it on to the downpipe, then drill a hole where the sensor will be. They come in a couple different sizes, depending on your downpipe. Its a better option than putting it in the factory o2 sensor spot.

Tons of people have been running wideband o2's in the stock front o2 sensor location with absolutely no problems, also if you are putting the wideband in the front o2 location you are not going to have a front narrow band o2 sensor so you can just use leave it unhooked, if evoscan has narrowband o2 simulation, then you just hook up the datalogger output wire of the aem wideband to pin 76 of the ecu.

I have been running the same one in the stock location for the last 4 years (summer driving/weekends only) and I have had no problems. I know lots of others who have done the same with no problems either.;)

The sensor seems to have a slower response when you get further away like in the downpipe from what I have seen and heard.

Well here's what I'm trying to do. I bought the car out of state so I didn't have to get it inspected when I registered it. Now its time to renew the tags and the chck engine light is on it had been since I got it because it it didn't have a rear o2 sensor. I assume they ran a wideband back there. So I plugged it and went about my business. Now I have to deal with it to keep it legal.
The front o2 that's in the car is one of those cheap universal deals that u have to wire up yourself. Everything I read said not to put it so far down the exhaust so I wanted to move it closer and put it in the front o2 place and move the universal one to the rear. I I just wanted to make sure that wiring the wideband straight to ecu doesn't kick a code.

I don't know much about evoscan, but I would think you could see what code you are having with the check engine light with it.:idontknow: I'm not sure if you can ignore the downstream o2 sensor like with dsmlink, but maybe that could be part of your problem. I know that on a stock setup you will run into a problem without the rear o2 sensor hooked up.

yes as gravedigger said if evoscan is similar to dsmlink you should be able to have the CEL not come on for things such as rear o2, cat efficiency, etc. also as gravedigger said the father away from the turbo the wideband is the more inaccurate the reading will be, don't put it too close to the turbo but the front o2 location will work just fine.

Well evoscan is just a logging software. ecuflash is what's used in conjunction with Evoscan but I would also need the cable that I don't have. I can check it but that's about it.
